3,2,1 to cliche countdown: Sack totals mean very little in the grand scheme of things, and Kirwin leaves pressures, hurries and hits out of his analyisis. Capers/McCarthy had a GREAT game plan IMO and Brady had a relatively poor game (by his standards). If you take away Arrington and Connoly, our offense basically put up 17 points. That's probably not going to cut it in the playoffs. Even with Branch, Woodhead, Hernandez, and Gronk, GB showed that this offense can be slowed considerably and kept to a lot of three and outs if you take away Wes Welker and don't allow Brady to eat a sandwich in the pocket.

they had 17 pts in 19 mins TOP. iam sure they couldve sustained drives but if the D did a shade better than 11-19 on 3rd downs we wouldve got more offensive possesions. Brady saw the ball once in the 3rd quarter when there was 3 mins or so left. Not disagreeing with you but its all a complimentary game. Shutting down any offense is easier for shorter # of possessions than more.

Great points. To build on this further they dominated TOP because we had serious issues stopping the run with so many DL out and our top run stopping LB in Spikes.

I'm not disagreeing with you either--the defense needs to do a better job as well. The good news is that adjustmients were made by BOB and they found a way to get it done in the end. BB trusted Josh to make adjustments in 2007 and is trusting BOB this year. Hopefully the end result will be different.

EDIT: Also, this game really resembled the Colts game in that this game fully should have ended up in the "L" column, if not for a flukey last play, (or in this, case the inexperience of Flynn). The Offense being able to manufacture a greater margin for error would really be welcome.

the analysis was fine, but this graphic is incredible:

Record when sacked three or more times since 2003
Player Record Win pct.
Tom Brady 19-4 82.6
Brett Favre 11-11 50.0
Peyton Manning 6-5 54.5
Drew Brees 5-14 26.3
Michael Vick 15-19 44.1

I find it hilarious when these analysts identify a team doing something successfully and call it a game plan.
"Keep Brady on the sidelines" Duh. We hae decided that we learned they special secret in beating the Patriots. We have to do well on offense.
"Get in Bradys face" We have decided that if their guys cant block our guys our offense will do well.
etc, etc

That's unreal. And 7-1 since the SB loss in this scenario.

I'd guess that Big Ben might be high on this list too since he's won a lot of games behind a shabby OL, but nothing like Brady. That's amazing.

>>>>Every possession has about a 25 percent chance of ending up in a score, but if the defense can get a sack the probability of a score goes down to about 7 percent.<<<
Actually for the Pats, it's a 51.4% chance of scoring on every drive if you look at the stats this year....

52 TDs
19 FGs (22 attempts)

3 missed FG
5 ints
4 Fumbles lost
51 punts
4 failed 4th downs

71 scores and 67 non- scoring drives
***I've included the ST touchdowns as well as return TDs since those were possessions..
