They have a lot to overcome, but I don't think they have a lot to prove. They've exceeded all expectations by far- this, after all, was supposed to be a 'rebuilding' year.

Rebuilding by the standards of fans, and media. I believe Belichick's goal every year is to win the Superbowl.

Agreed......

A sarcastic Bill Belichick on Tom Brady's finger injury, "It's not life threatening."

Agree completely, they already proved that they are one of the top NFL teams..

I agree with Patspsycho and DarrylS here. The Bears are the ones with something to prove this game. They want to beat N.E. to prove there legitimacy to the NFL. Same as Dallas wanted to in 2009 against us, it wont mean anything to you in the end game. You have been given a glimpse of your teams performance at peak. No they cant do that every week, but its very important to know there potential, means they can beat anyone. You have nothing to prove in Chicago. It would be nice to win it tho

I think they have a lot to prove, but I think the Bears have more to prove.
(1) Consistently win on the road
(2) Consistently win in difficult climate
(3) Preparation/focus on a short week
(4) Preparation/focus after a big win
(5) Matt Light
EDIT: I guess you can look at these things as "things to overcome" or as "things to prove". I don't fully understand the difference (mostly because I believe there isn't one).

Difference of opinion probably. I think the Bears have something to prove , not you, as the OP states.
I think you have some things to work on, as we all do, there are no perfect teams in the NFL. All teams will always have weaknesses and strengths. Closest to Nirvana was the 78 Steelers I think.
To me "Something to Prove" was the Patriots VS Jets game, you did that.
I thought #2 was never a problem? Isnt Brady like 18-4, or something ridicules, in cold weather?

(1) Consistently win on the road They are 4-2 this season
(2) Consistently win in difficult climateWhat Pherein said
(3) Preparation/focus on a short weekThey've only played one game on a short week this year they won 45-24
(4) Preparation/focus after a big winI thought, at the time, that the colts was a huge win, and they destroyed the lions (on a short week) after that
(5) Matt Light Matt Light is having a fine year. yes he gets beat sometimes, but so does everybody

So in other words, they've already "proven" they can do these things.

Only a biker knows why a dog rides with his head out the window.
"I'm not Jesus, I will not forgive". Corey Taylor, Apocalyptica

(1) @ Pittsburgh is their only road victory against a team over .500
(2) You're going to say "4-2 this season" and then use an argument that spans an entire career of one player out of 53?
(3) The Lions are 2-10, and they were also on a short week. Chicago is not.
(4) Again, the Lions are 2-10
(5) This was more something I wanted to see... I guess you're right.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Patriots will win this afternoon. I'm not saying what they have done is not impressive, I just see places where improvement can occur. It seems like people were satisfied with the way the team is playing, yet there are four more games left in the regular season.
