Great, then it's settled! The term was started here in New England (like everything else) and I can lay claim to that fact when I debate fans of other teams!

Exactly! That might have only been what a particular group of Red Sox fans called themselved back in 1912, but they were still Red Sox fans, and 1912 came long before the Raiders fans ever started calling themselves a "Nation". It might have taken longer for the entire fan base to start calling themselves this, but it was still a saying used by Red Sox fans back in 1912.

Guys, I edited my post. I think the author was calling them that. In an article he attributes it being contrived during the Sox/Mets World Series in 86.

Yes this is the article in the Globe of October 20, 1986.

He still coined the term and I'm saying it started right "hee-ah" in New England with the Sox in 1912! I think my great grandfather once told me he'd used the term since 1915

OFF TOPIC. It did (Clemens, as a Yankee and Blue Jay, but not as a Red Sox). He doesn't have enough wins, Ks, etc., to go into the HOF just based on his career with Boston, so he may be screwed out of the hall of fame. JMO.

That post was badly worded then. You made it seem like that particular group of fans (at the 1912 game) called themselved "Patriots Nation"...

Yeah, I think the Raiders started all that. But then the U.N. censured them for occupying Niners Nation, until the 9ers became the oppressors.

Like I stated, I didn't have the book handy to confirm and was working off memory. In a reply to that thread, I corrected myself, and attributed the claim to the rightful author. Sorry.
