Default Convinced Now Stallworth Won't Be Back Next Year

It seems pretty obvious that it is the combination of Moss and Welker that makes our passing game so effective. Stallworth is good, but I think that it Starts with Moss, welker is a perfect underneath compliment and that we can still be highly effective with someone like Gaffney in the other WR slot. I know I will draw criticism for this, but Gaffney will be alot cheaper then Stallworth, we can still bring Jackson along, and take that money and re sign key players and do what we can to get younger on Defense. I know I will draw criticism for this, but our Defense, primarily our LB's are getting old. I can see us getting some more productive years from AD and Vrabel, but Bruschi and Seau, you can't count on them after this year. We need to use the first day of the draft to get younger and better on defense and also try to address it in FA!

I agree. Given Stallworth's histoyr of injuries and his salary, I doubt he'll be back with Pats next year. I get that Stallworth is Pats' YAC guy but as a second receiver, he gets way too few looks from Brady. I'm not sure if there is any good reason for this but with majority of passes going towards Moss and Welker, Pats don't need high priced second receiver. Cheap up and coming player would be more suited for Pats second receiver spot.

The only thing that worries me about losing Stallworth is how much it will effect Welker.

Welker as the slot man is just unbelievable.

Welker as an outside man not so much.

Can Jabar Gaffney really make teams stay honest and allow Welker to do his thing?

I'm not quite convinced yet but I'd like to find out.

dudes, I like Gaffney, he played great last year and is making some great catches for us. I also think Brady has some confidence in him too....

I agree with what you are saying, but what I like about Stallworth is his ability to run after catching the ball. If somehow we can afford him, it would be great to keep him. But a person must be a realist, I don't think there will be enough cap room. The question we really don't know the answer to -- is Jackson a bust long term??? If we knew more about his true abilities this question of Stallworth would be easier to answer.

But bottom line, Moss is the man and we must keep him. He has been the best addition to our team since Tom Brady. If the price is Stallworth, so be it.

After that we need a good young LB. No question. Maybe FA will provide us one. Who knows.

Has people forgotten that if not for Stallworth the others would not be succesful??? Im in the camp with that Stallworth will be back at a reduced salary...

Chad Jackson's skill set is similar to Stallworth's, exept he is bigger and has better hands. IMO, he's the perfect no. 2. He'll be healthy next year and should be ready to fill that role. Gaffney remains as the dependable possession-type guy.

Any chance Stall renegotiates his deal to stay with the best QB in the NFL? I agree he is not worth what his contract will pay him next year - but he is still a good complimentary receiver who would be #1 on a lot of teams. I guess it comes down to what is more important to him.

How much do you all think he is worth on the free agent market, if we release him? His 07 stats are not impressive.

If we win this year, I don't see why Stallworth wouldn't go take the money somewhere else. I'd love to see him return, but it's going to have to be one hell of a pay cut.
