Default Interesting read about Big Ben

Ben Roethlisberger – A Historical Perspective
http://stillers.com/articles/2167.aspx

FTA (a la CHFF)

Quote:
It’s has been a hotly debated topic for some time now where Ben Roethlisberger stands in the hierarchy of today’s QB’s, and how he ranks historically vs. the greats. Take a look at any local Sunday paper, any message board, or watch any pre-game show and you’ll hear a ton of opinions ranging anywhere from Ben is equal to Rex Grossman to Ben is John Elway reincarnated. Typically you’ll see little statistical facts to back the arguments. Well finally, here is the article you have been looking for.
The article is decent, comparing the first four years of the contemporary great QBs. The only problem I have with it is the fact that they start keeping score for Brady in 2000, when he rode the bench. Also, the article ignores Lombardis.

Ben's a good QB. You can argue against it, but you'd be wrong. The guy's a solid player and is proving it this season now that he's completely healthy. This is a organization guy, class act, and a player that most fans would love to have on their team.

And for those here who still insist Ben is a lazy dimwit who benefits from a great surrounding cast and has reached his QB cieling, you can read this:

I knew the article was questionable as soon as I saw the first 2 words you quoted...

"It’s has been a hotly debated topic..."

And that was from a professional writer? WOW

Add to that the fact this guy counted Brady's rookie year and it's obvious he purposefully slanted the aricle to make Steeler fans feel good. For example, ALL statistical comparisons need to compared on a level playing field. First 3 years doesn't cut it since a guy could ride the bench for his first 3 years. So all the comparisons should be on a per game basis. In other words if Ben has played in 48 games to date, he should be compared to all other QB's first 48 games.

Weird. I was told he is lazy by probably the best source available.

But USA Today must know better.

yeah, he is still better than brady for those stats in that time period if you start brady's stat count at 01. i have a thread about that elsewhere on this site.
