Colts (6-3) at Patriots (7-2) - don't need to explain this one.
Texans (4-5) at Jets (7-2) - nor this one.
Raiders (5-4) at Steelers (6-3), this one could go either way. If you are worried the steelers might pass us root for the raiders. I figured if the Steelers do pass us than the Pats aren't playing their best football in Nov/Dec and a post season run would just be a one and done. So I am rooting for improving our draft pick.
Ravens (6-3) at Panthers (1-8) - Once again I am not worried so much about the Ravens having a game and a half lead cause of the tie breaker, so I am rooting for the improvement of our second round pick. As an added bonus: if we and the Steelers win the division the Ravens have the tiebreaker over the Jets. Watching the Jets miss the playoffs would bring almost as much joy as the Patriots making the playoffs.
Packers (6-3) at Vikings (3-6), - our third round pick
Lions (2-7) at Cowboys (2-7) -doesn't affect the Pats much way...both teams have equal records and either one or the other will improve/hurt pick situation. Rooting for a tie. 4 days of rest after playing 75 mins of football.
Bills (1-8) at Bengals (2-7) -- Hmm Bengals win could get them to tie with the Vikings. Bills win could get them ahead of Panthers. Moving up a spot in the second round is better than the third.
Browns (3-6) at Jaguars (5-4), eff Mangini. Plus want the Jags ahead of the Raiders.
Buccaneers (6-3) at 49ers (3-6), helps the picks more.
Cardinals (3-6) at Chiefs (5-4), not worried about the Chiefs beating out the Pats for bye/homefield. Am worried about Oakland making the playoffs and killing the value of the pick.
Falcons (7-2) at Rams (4-5) - would like the Rams to pass Oakland.
Giants (6-3) at Eagles (6-3) - don't care
Redskins (4-5) at Titans (5-4), Just cause I don't want to see any "Moss is awesome thread, BB should never have let him go" threads
Seahawks (5-4) at Saints (6-3), get ahead of Oakland, plus we have the Saint's 7th.
Broncos (3-6) at Chargers (4-5), Get ahead of Oakland.
Bears (6-3) at Dolphins (5-4), Dolphins ain't challenging us for the playoffs and if they do we don't deserve to make the playoffs. I would like the fish to draft before the Raiders however.

Ravens hold tie-breaker over the Jets for seeding purposes. But, both will probably make the playoffs. Only way jets miss is if one of 5-4 teams pass them. Tenn still plays Indy 2x. Miami is probably the only 5-4 that can catch them. Only because they still have a game left with them.
I wouldn't mind seeing Tennessee win, start making a push to overtake the Colts. Not that a jeff Fisher team is a lot more likable than Indy, just a little.
I also wouldn't mind seeing Denver beat SD -- I'd prefer not to see the Chargers in the playoffs

I normally agree with you 100% on your breakdowns - but you really gotta forget the picks in these instances. Let's worry about this year.
The reality is Belichick could probably care less if his pick is #12 or #18. If there is a player within a reasonable range that he wants to get, he will go and get that player using his other picks. So, and especially for the Raiders and Panthers picks at the top, a few spots here and there is rather irrelevant.
Having our competition for HFA lose is much, much, much more important.

I look forward to this thread every week. It's like a sign of the change of the seasons; time to officially stop talking about last week's game and instead discuss the upcoming matchups.
It's a delicate balance between rooting for other winning teams to lose for conference standings versus rooting for other teams to win in order to make those draft picks the Pats traded for better. I guess it comes down to how much faith you have that the Pats will finish with a better record than the Steelers or Ravens - or I guess I should say at least the same record, since they would win the head-to-head tiebreaker.
To a lesser extent it's the same with which team to root for on some of those other games in which neither team is threatening the Pats for best overall record.
For example: who do you think will win more games between now and the end of the season, Dallas or Detroit? If you think Detroit will have more trouble finding wins do you root for them, to insure they stay ahead of Carolina? If you think Dallas can win more games do you root for them to win and pass Minnesota and maybe even catch up to Oakland?
As for the AFCW I think San Diego wins it. Hopefully the Chiefs can stay ahead of the Raiders but I don't think that can happen and also at the same time the Broncos catch up to Oakland.
I think your putting too much emphasis on these draft picks. The Steelers should lose because who says we don't lose a couple of more games?
I agree. I want the Steelers, Ravens & Dolphins to lose. They can all still threaten us for better seeding/knocking us out in the playoffs. I vote for any NFC team to beat any AFC team too, for the same reason.
You're kind of contradicting yourself here. You want the Pats to win, why? To improve their record, which gives us a better seed/homefield in the post season which gives us the best chance to win the Super Bowl. I think we all agree with this. However, if we win we get the 32nd pick.
You then say we should root for the Steelers and Ravens, both team that have a significant chance to affect our seeding/homefield in the post season, because of... draft picks? How is a 2nd round pick, or even a 11-20 pick more important than postseason seeding?
I think you have to root against both the Steelers and Ravens.
If Oakland was 0-9 right now, I could see rooting for the Steelers as a one time thing as Bill could turn a #1 overall in to 50 other picks in the next 3 drafts, but since Oakland will likely not crack the top 10, there is no way I can justify wanting to see the Steelers win so we move from #18 to #17 when it could very well cost us homefield, a bye, or god forbid, a chance at the wildcard.
Broncos (3-6) at Chargers (4-5), Get ahead of Oakland.
