Re: The Patriots are so good - and so boring
Consider the source. This guy, a journalist, lives on the west coast and has no focus on any specific topic. He does movie reviews, television reviews, and sports articles. Here's a quote from Michael Ventre:
"I've written sports columns too numerous to mention over the past several years. Most have appeared in the Daily News of Los Angeles, and many of them have been published in papers across the U.S. via the New York Times wire service. Now I'm freelancing."
That about says it all. He is not an avid fan of football, and apparently watches it enough to write some articles to which he adds a bohemian slant ensuring they appeal to other sometimes fans. For this he gets paid, and it's how he makes his living along with writing about the 10 worst movies of all time or the TV ratings sweeps. Heady stuff.
So, an editor calls him and says, "Michael, hey babe, what's shakin'? Yeah, we need a glitzy sports article for filler, know anything that's hot? Yeah, that New England team is undefeated, but man, that's pretty boring for our readers, can you spin it so it might hold some interest? Cool, man, yeah undefeated is really uncool. Yeah, that's it! Use that as the hook. Good stuff, the usual rate, right? Cool, babe, have it in my mailbox in 24 hours. Ciao!"
That's all I really care to know about the guy, but hey, given all the garbage that gets written about the NFL by "serious sports writers," who's to say that he's that much worse than some of our favorite "sports experts?"
