Default OT: Did anyone catch the "Rick Romo" blurb by Gumble/Collinsworth last night?

Does anyone else think the NFLN's coverage of games blows HARD?

Those guys are the worst. I can see why cable companies don't want to pick them up.

Yeah I heard that too. This was already mentioned, but what the hell is up with Gumbel and his first down calls? A team will get a first down by 3 yards, and he insists on saying they "seem to have the first down". Annoying. NFLN has some pretty good analysts - you figure they'd maybe have Mariucci and Deion doing the games. Even Sterling may be good. They couldn't be any worse than their current tandem.

It's unwatchable. Gumbel has stock phrases he uses.

Any time a guy makes a first down by running, it's "He appears to have a first down" even if he runs 15 yards beyond the first down marker.

A run that doesn't get a first down is always near the first down marker, even if it is three yards away.

If a pass touches the receiver, it was "in and out of the hands" even if it was a fingertip tip.

A first down always results in "a fresh set of downs."

There is nothing wrong with saying any of these things, but he does it EVREY SINGLE TIME. It is so obvious he memorized phrases, it' pathetic.

He actually makes collingsworth look good.

If it wasn't for the Pats @ Gints, I would drop NFLN in a heartbeat. I will drop it Dec 30.

Gumbel is an inexperienced play-by-play announcer who not only doesn't amplify his reporting during the flow of the game, but he doesn't have the voice range to do so. While watching last night, I was mentally comparing him to other current announcers, and the difference is dramatic. His voice gets drowned out by the environment, and unless Colliinsworth gives him a hotfoot, I don't think this guy gets excited about anything. How NFL Network determined he was the guy for this job is beyond me.

I like Collinsworth. Gumble is god awful. Mistake prone. Generic. A big nothing.

YES, YES & YES!!! I watched it with my brother and we both thought it was really bad. They got the names of the teams mixed up 3 or 4 times and Bryant Gumble is not a good play-by-play guy.

I was stuck with it on the radio. If you can put up with Dick Engberg, I thought Denny Green's analysis was pretty darn good.

I agree on Denny. I was impressed. I also thought it was funny when at one point he said "they let 'em off the hook".

whenever either team scored a TD, he(Gumbel) would said, "and just like that." Every freaking time, even a field goal kick. The guy need to back and talk about news on CBS instead of football. NFL network need to let both of them go and hire Phil Simms and Jim Nantz for the play calling.
