...over the Patriots. Bob Ryan, OK, local guy, pointed out that Stephen Gostkowski has attempted 12 field goals this year, but has kicked off 75 times. Punter Chris Hanson has so few punts he's not even listed on ESPN's ranking or whatever ranking for punters he he looked at for lack of attempts. Mike Lupica, Bill Rhoden, John Saunders tried to come up with comps for other great teams/individuals; the usual Tiger Woods, 115 win Yankees, 114 win Mariners, Detroit Tigers 35 - 5 start in 1984 and others came up. The best, to me, was Joe Louis' "Bum of the Month Club" from 1939 - 1941. No, I don't remember that, just heard about it. Ryan pointed out that the spread of 24 points today ties the 1976 49ers spread of 24 over the expansion Buccaneers, said is there any doubt it will be 30 vs. the Dolphins and/or the Jets later. This show airs again on ESPN News at 9:30 PDT.

What will bring these spreads down is if the Pats fail to cover one time. That will take so many "geniuses" to the wood shed that there will be a backlash effect.
The boys in Las Vegas will have a really hard time setting a spread when they can't figure out who got burned and what the effect will be the following week. It's hard on them already. This is their worst nightmare, but if the Pats fail to cover tonight it will throw everything into the crapper for figuring fan sentiment next week.
It's a business that is going through major hardship because of the Patriots. The NFL is turned on its head, and fan betting sentiment is going bezerk. I think Johnny Come Lately bettors are in for a rude awakening one week.

I was almost uncomfortable listening to the sports reporters gushing this morning. Every one of them -- comparing the Pats to Ali in his prime, etc. I was thinking, "wait, we're the bad boys, say something negative."
Not a peep. Bob Ryan said he'd vote for Moss as MVP, though.
I hate the Moss Brady MVP stuff. It is a false choice. You have 2 of the greatest of all time at their positions. They both make their teammates better. We've known this for years about Brady look at the production of receivers with/away from Brady, huge diff. Moss make the other receivers better and opens up the running game with his presence (and makes life A LOT easier for the OC). When you have these 2 TOGETHER....think Synergy, not MVP. in the case of Brady and Moss 1+1=3. they not only make their teammates better they show what the other 'mvp' is truly capable of....
And we get to watch the show.

"How does (Miami-Ohio offensive lineman Brandon) Brooks not get invited to the combine? How did Vollmer not get invited to the combine? I don't know. We can't really worry about that. We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."
All the other guys were gushing over Brady and said he will be the runaway winner. Bob Ryan, like others, are just taking an opposite approach to make the discussion interesting. Other than Manning in 2004, there has never been a more obvious choice for MVP!
The Pats without Moss are still GREAT, but the Pats without Brady...damn, I don't even want to think about it.
Brady = MVP of the league
Brady or Favre = Offensive Player of the year (could be a tie)
Moss = Comeback player of the year

Book It!
Without Moss we're still the best team in the league but we don't average 41 pts per game.
Without Brady we're essentially a 10 or 11 win team (assuming Cassel plays decent).
Considering all the anti-Patriot sentiment out there and their long time tendency to short Tom Brady....I wouldn't be at all surprised if Brady ends up getting jobbed and they make Favre the league MVP.
They love Favre and if the Packers beat the Cowboys and end up getting home field advantage in the NFC, that'll be all the justification they need.
It's half Patriots hate and half Favre love.
