Default Heard this on WFAN

on the mike and mad dog show. One of the hosts commented that the pats are a finesse team at least on offense. Seems like its partially true since we dont run the ball a lot but what is your take on it ? I think players like welker and faulk and stallworth and watson can't be called finesse but thats some perception right now since we havent played in snowy windy weather yet.

Makes sense to me. The way I see it, there's "power" offenses and "finesse" offenses. The Patriots clearly aren't power because they are lights out every time.

Call it what you want, I guess. But Moss, Stallworth and Watson are physically imposing receivers and Welker, despite his size, isn't a finesse guy. If you have to have an overwhelming running game to be a power team then maybe we aren't - but we overpower defenses physically and that's enough for me. Finesse, to me, means resorting to trickery and we certainly don't have to do that.

power on a football team is in the trenches. who in the NFL is better in the trenches than New England? idiots like Mad Dog need something to validate their negativity.

No one likes to be called a finesse team, but one thing that has benefitted the Pats has been the officials' attention to detail in terms of DBs putting hands on WRs downfield, which was how the Pats have (or had, up to 2003) beaten "finesse" teams like the Colts. (thank you, bill polian!)

Call it what you want, but a defense can't hit what they can't touch.

Calling a team a finesse team is just a backhanded insult. It's usually reserved for teams that are passing well, which obviously the Pats are.

However, I wouldn't want to be the one calling them "finesse" if Rodney Harrison were within earshot.

The ideal offense has both finesse AND power.

The Pats are world-class in finesse and not-bad in power. So yeah, calling them a finesse offense isn't ridiculous.

IF you recall the infamous "Snowbowl" the "finess" offense of the Raiders actually ourperformed the Pats run Antowan SMith on everdown offense. The only way the Pats came back in that game is when they let Brady go into the no-huddle offense.

In snow, as long as it is not incredible eindy, the passing team will have a great advantage. Imagine trying to cover Moss in the snow, when he knows where he is going to go and you don't. Don'teven get me started on what Welker will do in the snow.
