Default Jarvis Green double-teamed on late Manning strip sack

With the Colts down 24-20 and driving with 2:30 remaining in Sunday's game, there is only one Patriots player double teamed by the Indy offensive line blocking our oncoming DL on the key 3rd down play near Indy's 47 yd. line: Jarvis Green. With his teammates pushing without success to reach Manning, Green lunges through the two Colts linemen guarding him to strip sack Manning which resulted in Colvin's game-winning fumble recovery. Great effort again Jarvis!

Not surprising. Jarvis has been this teams best DL all season long. And that's saying something with Warren and Wilfork firmly entrenched as top players at their positions in this league.

Jarvis is our new WillieMac, and has been, for some time. Yet, because his name is not Seymour, he still is often relegated to "great back-up who would start for other teams" status. While people acknowledge he is underrated, they still fail to give him his full dues.

And, yes, I love Seymour and did see him collapsing the pocket. He played great.

i think ppl are confused when they call Jarvis a backup. yes he does backup Warren and Seymour for first and second down (run-stopping substitution).

but he STARTS on any passing down in place of Seymour -- he is an absolute beast at the pass rush!!

He is the best pass rush DL we got , He gives up a bit in running game in 3rd down plays. Also as a pass rusher remember he is kept fresh by the other guys .That is why seymour is critical he takes on 2 DL in first and second .
then lets jarvis come in the 3rd for some heat.

That is exactly what I was trying to say in me "Green vs Seymour" thread after the game. I thought Green was better pass rusher than Seymour in the Colts game. Which is evident by his strip sack of Manning.

At least someone else agrees with me!

That's EXACTLY the dynamic.

Green is great in short spurts. He has shown a propensity to wilt against the run when out there a long time. I believe we saw evidence of that in the Buffalo, Miami and (most prominently) the Dallas games. Hate to use the baseball analogy (don't kill me folks) but I see him as a Papelbon/Mariano Rivera type player. He can be dominant, but don't leave him out there all game.

Having Seymour back, makes Jarvis Green a much more lethal weapon. He's an awesome closer.

I thought, overall, that Green was actually better against the run vs. Indy. He stopped Addai in the backfield 2-3 times. Granted, because he was pass rushing on passing downs...

I haven't seen any run deficiencies in Green's game at all this year. I think he's been superb against the run all season long.

Green is an animal and has been one the most underrated players on this team in years past. Its more than just the sacks and forced fumbles. There will never be a 3 + stretch of pass plays where Jarvis does not get a good push...he is a relentless pass rusher, versatile (the guy lines up at nose on many passing downs), and has greatly improved his play in the run game. Talk about unselfish, this guy could go to most other teams in the league and be one of the defense stars...but hes not worry about that
