Default Comeback Player of the year (so far) Brett Favre or Randy Moss?

I believe if things continue as they have been for most of this season I think there is just a 2 man race for comeback player of the year.

Brett Favre and Randy Moss are IMO the ONLY two you can think of that qualify for this honor.

Comeback player includes a guy who has virtually been a non factor in a few past previous years but has now regained his vigor and playing like his best days again.

I am leaning towards Favre - Even if you don't like the guy you got to admit he has been a pleasant surprise this year,I think he is a good guy, soft spoken for the most part and a family man - At the age of 38 he is playing better than 90% of the leagues QBs and without him the Packers are at about 3-5 right now - for much of his career he has shown class and dignity,a devotion to his team and family and a guy that does not usually mouth off and definately does not get in legal trouble that at least anyone knows about.

On the other hand, Randy Moss was a virtual nobody in Oakland after a legendary beginning of his career in Minneapolis,Randy has found a home here in New England and with the best quarterback he has ever had the priviledge of getting passes from in Brady he has resurrected his career at 31 years of age and is a major reason why New England is 9-0 - Without Moss I think the team is still very solid but 8-1 or even 7-2 might have been the story without some of his miraculous catches , also his presence alone on the field helps open up gaps in the secondary for the other fine receivers the Patriots have.

So take off those homer glasses and be absolutely unbiased - if you had a pick of these two guys who is more worthy of comeback player nominee thus far - or maybe someone else you have in mind like Roethlisberger or ????? - explain that as well if you wish -

Remember UNBIASED opinion or don't answer at all - Thanks

I'd say Favre

Heres why.... the Pats can win without a Randy Moss, sure hes had a huge impact, but you can't say the Pats would be a losing team if they didn't have Moss.

Favre on the other hand, along with his WR's, is main factor as to why the Packers are winning, so that makes his comeback a much bigger impact.

Moss probably should win it, considering the complete 180 he's undergone this year. Favre will win though, and he's definitely a deserving candidate in his own right. Won't agree with that decision, but I won't have much of a problem with it either.

Although I love Moss as much as any hetero man could, I don't think coming back from "I don't feel like playing" counts.

Favre sucked last year, but at least he was trying.

Your post highlights a larger point, imo: why the hell do they even give out this award? I suppose it makes a bit of sense to reward guys who come back from injuries, but in the case of a Favre or Moss, the award is pretty much contingent on having sucked the year before. Who would want that distinction?

I am not really sure exactly how they rank a comeback player but IMO its a guy who has more than quadrupled his productivity from a few previous years - If thats the case then Randy qualifies, even if he took plays off - that does not really show in paper stats so I don't know if words expressed to the media counts as well.

Both Favre and Moss are incredible athletes and Favre is a 1st ballot HOFer - Moss needs a few more years like this and he is in for sure.

Maybe its to instill confidence should that player continue to play the following year or two or maybe to Showcase his earlier talent that was lost among many during the players lean years, nevertheless an award is an award for acheiving greatness in a season and should still be considered an honor per say.

Sure, that's a good enough explanation for me. I'd think the possibility of a multi-million dollar contract would be a greater incentive to continue playing at a high level, but if an award's what it takes, then that works.

Also responding to Pats64, I agree the criteria of having sucked the year before takes a little luster off, but a lot of people thought Favre was washed up and battling injuries or father time are both noble quests in my mind.

Moss might win the MVP (if Brady didn't exist) but I have a problem with giving an award on a comeback, when a lot of the original suckitude was self centered pouting.

Just my 2 cents.

As far as I can tell the only one who should even be considered is Ben on Pittsburgh. Favre and Moss were both 100% healthy last year, and anyone else that was injured last year really isn't playing that well this year (or injured again).
