What??? - Nobody mentioned Marino (the 80s version of Manning) Vs. Montana (the 80s version of Brady)

Marino vs. Montana was the best IMO

How many times did they actually play each other, though? Obviously the one Super Bowl, but other than that I don't know if there were many times the two teams met.

Thumbs up Re: Is Brady Manning the greatest QB rivalry ever?

In 1970, the Pats had two QBs whose talent and performance were far apart from their fellow NFL Quarterbacks.

Joe Kapp vs. Mike Taliferro.

No two QBs ever distance themselves from the rest of the league like these two outstanding rivals.

Good one and don't forget Tom Hodson vs. Hugh Millen make one longing for those days don't it.

IMO The greatest rivalry is 2 guys at QB who are so good that they stood head and shoulders above the rest of the group of QBs - That was the 80s with Montan and Marino setting all kinds of records and nobody was even near these 2

I'm not sure it gets any better than Brady/Manning. It would be nice if they were able to face off in a superbowl, but that would mean we wouldn't get the annual regular season match up with one of them being over in the NFC. I'm glad the Colts moved out of the AFC east because it wouldn't be fair for one of these teams to have to be a wild card every year. I think having two great quarterbacks on two great teams in the same conference, but in different divisions is the best scenario for a great qb rivalry.

On Sept. 24, 1972, Namath and Unitas combined to pass for a record 872 yards. Namath threw for a career-high 496 yards and six touchdowns in the Jets' 44-34 victory over Baltimore.
These guys weren'r rivals age wise but...

I saw this game, what a show!!

I know some people don't think Namath deserves the hall and they've got a case stats wise, but he had it all as a QB (except knees). Grace under pressure, leadership, balls and a great arm. He could zip it or drop it in like a feather.

Even I'm not old enough to compare Unitas in his prime to today's greats, but he was considered the best ever by many back then.

You're absolutely right. It was a bit of an untraditional rivalry, because they didn't play each other much. But those 2 were measured against each other constantly while they played. It was never "whose better, Marino or Elway?" It was always Marino v. Montana. That was the best - but I think Brady Vs. Manning will eclipse that - they may already have - and they both seem to have a lot of time left at the top of the league.
