How would putting the mic in a center record the other team's QB???

He isn't going to be snapping for him!

I know, that doesn't make sense.

Can someone summarize what Florio is trying to say - - I don't want to give him the clicks.

Actually, it was distracting..the voice level of the announcers wasn't high enough when mixed with this.

I assume he meant nose tackles, but it doesn't matter. The NFL addressed this after the Dolphins got recordings of the Pats' signals. The ruling? "That's football."

no what is saying is that is is ok to have mics in centers pads for TV broadcast to hear the QB calling who the MIke is and other calls at the line. it's not like you can't hear it on the field half the time anyway and any halfway smart coach is going watch a tape with sound but no crowd noise anyway

Mike is in EACH team's center and the QB is broadcast to everyone on TV therefore a team could sync up their film with the broadcast audio. This is not rocket science, people.

FYI: Pats center 'refused' to be miked up.

The florio article starts with mentioning 'unstubstantiated rumors' that the Pats serrupticiously did this in past years leading to Pats haters galore in the comments.

This is kind of odd since the rumors of recording QB line calls came from the Pats/Fins game in 2006...a year before IllegalCameraPlacementNotUsedForGamedayAdvantageBu tStillSupposedlyDestroyingLeagueIntegrity-Gate.

I believe the Fins players admitted to having a tape with Brady's line calls but never explained where they got it. The league brushed it off.

Just for fun, check the Pats point totals around that game (3 games before, Fins game, 3 games after):

35, 17, 28, 0, 40, 24, 40

Even though the Fins score sticks out, it doesn't matter to me if the Fins used information (verbal or visual) that isn't trying to be disguised. Stealing a playbook or hacking a computer? Bad. Having tapes with signals or line calls? No big deal. Shame on the Pats for not adjusting the line calls from previous games in order to prevent this (or even bait the defense into making false reads)

He was rehashing an old rumor about the Patriots D-linemen using hidden microphones to tape opposing QB's cadences as a lead in for his thoughts on the new way Offensive linemen are wearing microphones to aid in the broadcasts of games this year.

Just an easy way to take a cheap shot at the Patriots.

Here's an article about the Dolphins using taped audio in '06:

NFL: Dolphins did no wrong vs. Patriots

Note this gem:

"Reaction around the league office was, 'That's football,' " AFC spokesman Steve Alic said.
Plus this Quick Hits nugget from John Clayton:

Teams are always trying to steal signs and signals off other teams. That's just football.
Such is the hypocrisy of the League Office...
