260 views for a thread with Tom's contract details vs. 6000 for the end of the Maroney era. Speaks volumes...LOL

I am pretty sure that 2010 signing bonuses can be prorated over 5 years.

I'm confused... with no CBA for 2011 how can we know anything about how the signing bonus' would work?

Just kindof seems like this was structured to give the Pats enough flexibility to deal with a contract of this nature regardless of what the CBA dictates - but aside from that I'm clueless as to how we can know how this contract impacts anything past this year.

But we have so much more new Maroney stuff to talk about!!!

I think he is going to have a hall of fame career from here on out because really he was just not a good fit here.

Brady dances too much at the LOS. We should have kept Zac.

Meaning of "for injury or cap" : there are guarantees for injury or skill in every contract. In TB's contract, cap is the short-hand for capacity which is another way of specifying skills.

It does not mean cap space. As & when the cap constraints on each team is reinstated after the next CBA, all contracts annualized count toward the cap.

So, two very different uses of the word cap space or capacity (skills) in a player's contract.

Because the expiring CBA didn't ignore or eliminate rules, it just changed some (like 6 years to FA and no limit on how much or how little you can spend on your roster overall - but lots of limits on how you can spend it on individual extensions - i.e. reallocation rule or 30% rule). And they stipulated that for good reason, to avoid chaos when the new one picks up right where the old one left off essentially... This is an uncapped year, not a year absent rules. The next CBA whenever it comes will essentially be the old CBA with amendedments... How signing bonus is treated will likely be one of the things that doesn't change since it hasn't since the inception of the cap. Once money is amortized against the cap it can't be moved.

Here's my take on Brady's cap numbers

2010 -$17,420,000
2011: $13,200,000
2012: $15,200,000
2013: $18,200,000
2014: $18,200,000

We don't yet because while Reiss information is from someone who has seen the contract it isn't very detailed information. More full or partial guarantees have to be included or it isn't really guaranteed, although he will see that much money in the first three years and that is implicitly guaranteed by his dead cap (remaining amortization and guaranteed money still due) in 2011 or 2012 if he didn't...

Brady gets $26.5M this year in previously paid roster bonus, increased salary and signing bonus - just for those who struggle to understand that saying a deal starts in 2011 doesn't mean he has to wait for the money to start until then.

As further details emerge we may find out just what is or isn't fully or partially guaranteed where future salaries are concerned and we may also find that in addition to his standard workout bonuses which he may not collect depending on what attendance % they are tied to there are bonuses for achievements like pro bowl or all pro or even post season incentives.
