Default The Official "Good Luck Vinny" Thread

Although Carr is now "questionable" for the Cardinals game, given the fact that he suffered a back injury, I think that's just posturing on the Panthers part to keep Phoenix guessing a bit.

It seems to me Vinny's probably going to be starting tomorrow - and I'm looking forward to seeing him do well.

I have a feeling all those guys who signed Vinny to their fantasy football rosters are going to be looking good tomorrow () .... seriously, Vinny's still got plenty of zip on his passes and he's a very smart QB as well.

Lots of great story lines could come out of this game - not the least of which is the fact that a potential TD target was born the same year Vinny was winning the Heisman trophy!

Here's a nice retrospective from the Tampa area, where they once thought that Vinny was bad for the Buccaneers...turns out the opposite was true.

Yeah. The guy just is out there having fun, looking like a middle-aged guy in a fantasy camp.

Best of luck to him!

Yeah, go Vinny. Extend your touchdown streak one more year. Don't get hurt, though. We need you on the 2008 shadow roster.

He may be smart, but they don't call him Interceptaverde for nothin':

Career stats (Wikipedia):
225 games
75.3 rating
3693 completions in 6529 attempts (56.6%) for 45,281 yards
270 TDs
261 INTs
420 rushes for 1643 yards and 15 TDs

Good luck to him.

But this begs the question: how do guys like Testerverde get starts in this league while guys like Rogers or Cassell just sit and sit? Seems seems like luck that Carr and Harrington can lose his job and then be a backup for a month before regaining a starters position with another team. The injuries are so random.

Obviously Cassell isn't able to go to any team that finds itself in need of a starter, but generally 2nd and 3rd string roster spots are quite often filled with uproven young players with lots of potential and "upside"

It's recognized these guys need time to develop and are largely on the roster for protection. There's often a Vinny type veteran out there kicking around unsigned who's stayed in gameshape who can be picked up if indeed a starter goes down and the team then wants insurance in case the young backup isn't ready for primetime.

So there's really no real incentive in using up a roster spot for a guy like Vinny - the situation in Carolina is actually pretty rare where two QBs would go down so close together.

Last year's Pats are a good example - we had no 3rd string QB and BB only signed him towards the end of the season for insurance and perhaps some additional QB counseling for Cassell, and even another set of eyes on the sidelines (though most of the Patsfans board argued strongly that was not the case, Brady and BB both later acknowledged Vinny's value in that regard)

Talent-wise, Vinny was good-not-great, which probably was at some point a disappointment. But he's played football for a zillion years, made a ton of money, made a ton of plays, won a lot of games.

It's been and continues to be a great career. More power to him.

Good luck. I hope he gets that TD to continue the streak.

Here's an interesting question:

You have an emergency QB need - you have your choice of two recently "retired" QBs - Drew Bledsoe or Vinny.

Who do you take?

I think I'd go for Vinny.
