Default San diego game officiating

A couple things I noticed.. first the two big pass interferance calls I saw were both very ticky tacky. One was on the Pats and the other was on San Diego. Also I hope someone lets Wes Welker know that spiking the ball after a first down is a penalty this year. He did it twice and both could have been 15 yard penalties.

Not to mention the time a ref threw the flag and nothing happened. We got this explaination: "There was no holding...the defensive player was just overwhelmed by the offensive player"

I think he used the term "overpowered". Hochuli let them play for the most part, even going to the huddles to settle them down ( without flags) when it starting getting chippy at the end ( translation- team losing by 24 getting pi**ed)

Almost the identical call both ways. I'm OK with both or neither being called. But if one had been called and not the other it would have been a great injustice.

Very solid refereeing overall.

Just another reason why Hochuli is the man! Let them play, let them play...

I agree that the ref did a nice job and explained things well (too well in the "overwhelmed" case). My biased eyes were ready to complain about the Hobbs call, but I sat back down when I saw it. There were planty other close calls, including Moss getting away with a little push-off on the left sideline.

I thought the Colvin simulating snap call was very tight. And why do they call it "delay of game"? It is because ti delays the game for them to have to call it?

To my knowledge, spiking the ball after the play results in a 5 yard penalty for delay of game, not a 15 yard unsportsmanlike.

I was surprised it wasn't called after seeing Shockey get flagged for it in the NYG/GB game.

I think Hochuli and his crew did a good job; no-body's perfect but I don't have too many complaints because it seemed to go both ways. There are far worse ref's out there...when BB says Hochuli and crew are one of the best, i trust his judgement!

The only call I thought that was missed was after Merriman tackled Maroney, Merriman got up and used two hands and pushed Maroney's helmet back to the ground. I thought it looked like a 15 yards unsportsmanlike. But the broadcast team did not even notice it.

Who was that that came into Brady and shoved his head when he was wrapped up? He drew a helmet to helmet for it but he was definitey trying to hurt Brady.
