What am I missing? coldhardfootballfacts says they don't know who he is and that "A Patriots beat reporter wrote to us this morning to say that this person circled below is NOT the person in question."

Many more photos of this guy have shown up and he is seen on the tape of the game.

Where does it say he has been identified as media? I just don't see this as debunked. He was there. We still don’t know who he was or why he was there. If those are answered, this can be debunked.

We have to get word of this out there. All we need to ask is someone tell us who this guy is. Most reporters will blow us off as crazy Pats fans with conspiracy theories but there is SOMETHING NOT RIGHT. Until we know who this guy shooting the pats sideline during Jets offensive possesions not wearing any kind of media vest there's a possibility that this is evidence that the Jets were doing the same thing to the Pats. Please email Florio, Reiss, Shaliza, the NFL, anyone you can think of. It's worth a shot....

I got a response, they know who he is and he works for the Jets. It had not occurred to them that they were doing the same thing since the photos show him aiming at the Jets while the Patriots offense was out. I told him to look at the film to see what he is shooting while the Patriots defense is out. Also that it is the same infraction the Jets did.

i think because they are press, they don't see anything wrong even though this is clearly against the rules. We don't know what he filmed as they didn't grab the film but that is not the point. That he is there is the same bad thing the Patriots did so the penalty would be the same. Stealing signals is not the infraction, its having the cameraman.

I couldn't help myself. I e-mailed Felger. I feel dirty.

Would it be possible to post the actual email? If we know who is knowingly ignoring this angle, we can voice displeasure in a more effective way and use as evidence on the intertubes.

I will give him a chance to see what he does with as he would have no idea I was writing here. I wouldn’t want to get him in trouble as he is the only person who responded. I wouldn't want him to get in troble for that. He is from Hearst though.

1st contact

I wrote on one of the contact us pages asking who he the guy in the photo was and sending the photo link

2 Email in response

Actually, that's not him (the guy in the picture is a Jets employee according to our photographer, who knows him). Matt, the "guilty" photographer, interned here a couple of years ago... and that is not him. _________________________________

3 Email to him

Thanks,

So as a Jets employee filming he broke the same rule the Patriots did?

4 Email from him

And I totally missed the point of your e-mail!

Consider this... the shooters do have that kind of access (as do ours)... but if the Jets guy was doing bad things, he wouldn't be shooting his own team!

5 Email to him

If you watch the game film, He is shooting while the Patriots defense is out and not the game but the Patriots.

6 Email to him

Also stealing signals is not against the rules, it was having the cameraman on the sideline. We won't know if he did steal signals since he didn't get stopped but by just being there he committed the same offense as the Patriots.

7 Email from him

Not necessarily. There are dozens of photographers on the sidelines during a game. Our guy could have shot the Jets coaches without anyone noticing. What is banned is team employees shooting coaches giving signals. It's rather specific.

Actually, when you add it all up, considering Mangini knew the shooter, it's starting to sound like a sting!

8 Email to him

Ah, I though he was a Jets employee. That is specifically prohibited per the rules I believe as there are only the 3 designated places they can shoot from and not from the field. If he is a media member with access then that is a different story. If he is a Jets person then they broke the same rules the Patriots did.

Is he a Jets person?

Thank you,

No more emails

No response after that. He initially said he was a Jets employee. I don’t think he understood the ramifications of that.

Hard to follow that correspondance for me, but does it seem like once you put all the pieces together for him he stopped talking. Perhaps realizing you were right? Am I reading too much into it? The guys seems clueless as to what the rules are exactly.

Email 9 to him

Please look at this page from the link below and it's two photos clipped from TV. There are about 100 patriots fans working on this now at a bunch of sites but no one from the media seems to get it. If he is a Jets employee they are subject to the same penalty as the Patriots. Stealing signals is not against the rules, its filming on the sideline that is. If he is a Jets employee it’s a slam dunk. If he is not then it is meaningless. You said in your first response he was a Jets employee.

Thank you,

Paul

Email 10 from him

But wouldn't our cameraman also be guilty of breaking the rules?

It's a moot point now though... check out our website for the ruling.

Email 11 to him

I think you are missing my point or question. If he is a Jets employee this is a violation of the same rule the Patriots broke. If he is media then it is a non issue. Is he a Jets employee? Do you know? Sorry to be a pain but you are the only person nice enough to have responded and we are all dying to find out?

Thanks,

Email 12 from him

That's true. I'll think about this more once we get past tonight's madness.

No problem... I enjoy the occasional debate.

Email 13 to him

Thanks,

1 more photo of him aiming at the Patriots sideline while the Patriots defense is out. The post # 142 showing a shot a 4:25 in the 3rd.

Hopefully once tonights drama about the issue is over he puts together the implications and gets himself a scoop. Something pretty similar happened last year with the Ellis Hobbs face guarding thing. I checked the rulebook and had the exact place it said face guarding was legal. I sent a (less polite than it should have been) rebuttal to a Q&A column on the jaguars official site of all things and by the end of the week up to a few weeks ago I would get asked if I was the guy who the newspapers were using as the source (they only used my name and hometown but people guessed).

The point is if you push it, someone can realize you've done almost all their legwork for them and given them a story - one that could go national in this case - they can run with and advance their own individual ambition while getting the word out.
