You're probably right. But as a fan, I can only hope for the team to get competitive at some point this season. Hopefully, some adjustments will be made and the team will be able to achieve some success. I came to this board because I: 1) wanted to congratulate you guys on an impressive performance by the Pats, and 2) wanted to escape the negativity that prevails on the Jets message boards after a loss.

Don't worry, though, Belichick is a really good coach to want to emulate.
No question, Belichick is his largest influence and mentor. Despite this, I really believe Mangini is trying to be his own man. In a couple of years the differences between the two will become more apparent. Hopefully, it won't be simply a difference in success.

I think in all honesty that Mangina is a very good DC.......and that in history....will be about it.......He just doesn't seem to give BB the amount of credit that is deserved in Mangina being selected to be the jests new head coach.......If Mangina had been the DC for Tampa, Arizona, Cleveland or even Pitt.....he would have never gotten the notoriety....Heck even McDaniels was getting looks from Oakland in the offseason....and he is still "learning" here in NE.......No, in all seriousness Mangina is a good defensive coord......and when all is said and done...will be an average to slightly above average HC.........GO PATS!!!

what happened with the hand shake after the game? I was watching on TV, and right after the 2 minute warning they switched to the miami-washington game so i didn't get to see.

I applaud your unbiased viewpoints on your team, and appreciate the post. I also applaud you on your decision not to wallow in negativity on the main jets discussion board. Some realism is expected and alright..........but downright Negativity or unbridled "homerism"...is very hard to stomach....for a TRUE fan (that sees good and bad).........I think that OBVIOUSLY Belichick is Mangini's MENTOR........and you know what they say about that......very rarely does the student overtake the mentor..........I think Mangini will be a decent coach there but will be VERY interested to see how he would/will handle the NY press should he get on a losing jag......they will rip him apart....will be interesting to see how he handles it......anyways.....good post

I do NOT believe the Jesters wil make the playoff's this year. I seen him on
NFL network after the game.... he didn't know what to say! We kicked their butts!

In terms of Mangini's longterm career, any success he has with the Jets is just gravy. When he took this job, I (and plenty of others) assumed that he knew it could be rocky, but figured he might as well do his learning while picking up a seven-figure paycheck and making himself a household name. In Belichick terms, this is his Cleveland. If he wins, hurrah. If not, he will be first in line for any open DC positions and is so young he will absolutely, positively get another shot at the top job down the road. That's the way this league works.

Well stated. As I said in another thread, the Jets' success last year may contribute to a massive swing of fan opinion in the opposite direction this year if the team goes through tough times. It almost would have been better had the Jets gone through a modestly successful season in 2006 and gradually built on that. However, now the expectations are at a fever pitch, and many Jets fans assume that improvement equal to last season should be a standard in 2007. Not so, grasshoppers. As BB would be the first to tell you, every season is a whole new situation with a whole new team.
