Default NFL drug scandal?

From the NY Daily News:
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/fo..._.html?ref=rss

Quote:
New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison and Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Wade Wilson have both admitted to league officials that they received illegal performance-enhancing drugs as part of an Internet drug scam, the Daily News has learned.
...
Wilson admitted receiving human growth hormone and anabolic steroids while a coach with the Chicago Bears, where he worked from 2004-2006. League officials were interested to know whether he used the drugs himself or whether he supplied them to players.
...
The two are the first of what is expected to be many connected to the NFL to arise in the investigation. Sources said officials from the Albany Co. District Attorney's office approached NFL officials about Harrison and Wilson, saying that both had received drugs from Signature Pharmacy in Orlando. Under the scam, in which nine have pleaded guilty, doctors, hired by "anti-aging" clinics, signed prescriptions for patients they never saw, and those prescriptions were filled at Signature and other pharmacies. Albany and Florida law enforcement agents raided the pharmacy and several clinics in February.
Pasquarelli said he's heard there were more players waiting on appeal, and that there would be more suspensions announced next week. He said he doesn't think they are going to be big name guys, like Rodney.

I wonder if this is going to turn into a huge scandal, like with MLB? Poor Goodell, hasn't had too many peaceful days so far.

If this does become a big scandal so be it. If there is obviously a problem (players breaking the NFL rules and the law) it should be corrected. Either by modifying the rules or busting everyone involved. I hate to see this happen because I think pro football is leagues [sic] above any other pro sport, but I would rather have everyone on a level playing field (wow puns all over the place... )

EDIT: Interesting to see a bears official cited. Especially considering their trip to the super bowl. Imagine if they had won...

LOL I don't know Roger, whadda you think...

Well, at least we now know Rodney had a prescription.

BTW in order to level the playing field half the league would likely have to go. Guess if all that matters is that the playing field be level, it wouldn't matter whether it was them that do or them that don't wo go. Would open up several hundred new jobs in the NFL either way.

And for the record, it was the owners and coaches of this great league who for many years pressured their players who were making relative chump change into a whatever it takes mentality. Still is to some extent whether they admit it or not. We're seeing (often marquee) guys with career threatening injuries that used to take at least two years to recover from suddenly back on the field in less than a year. Because if you miss two years in this league at the salaries they pay these days, you are usually out of a job 'cause they moved on without you. And it ain't happening because of sudden and astounding advances in orthopedic medicine, contrary to what they would have you believe.

This is big. The NFL isn't the only one who is involved in this. The Signature pharmacy raid has also affected WWE as well. Quite a few major superstars have been suspended, and WWE is starting to postpone shows. I will not be surprised if NBA, and NHL players get caught as well.

He was operated on in the off season. Nothing mysterious and minor compared to Harrison's injury, I believe.

It was announced that the WWE was suspending 10 "SuperStars" because they had violated the Steroids/HGH policy that the WWE has instituted last year.

I was wondering about this last night. The speedy recovery of Rodney now makes me look in wonder at Carson Palmer, Dante Culpepper, and T.O., to name just a few, as your point is well taken.

As much as the pain of our much beloved Rodney being caught up in all this touches us personally, he's just one guy you can chauk up to "making a mistake". I'm sure from the league's stanpoint, the fact that Wilson is caught up in this has to be VERY troubling. It's one thing for a few guys, like Rodney, who make the mistake looking for an special edge or shortcut back to the field, its altogether another to have an active coach involved, particularly is they are able to connect him to any players and their use.

I imagine that will go over like a fart in church in the leaque offices. Sounds like this whole thing is gonna dog the NFL for awhile, certainly the early aprt of the season.
