Who said they caved? From everything ive read its seemed like he asked not to be Franchised again after he signed the tender.

I have a hard time believing this. The secondary is better than it's been in some years when we won the Super Bowl, and Asante had NO GROUND here, no leverage whatsoever. This is HORSECRAP.

So does Tomase's article about Asante getting "beat deep" get any heat?

Hey it is a copy cat league, not surprised at all that he gets a similar deal to Briggs.
I wouldn't consider it caving in, if he plays well the Pats will work out a long term deal in the offseason, if not they can let him go.
Seems fair all around, considering what he could of made on the FA market.

Well Belichick was in charge last year and they could have made the same deal with Branch. If it's me I let him sit until Week 10, Franchise and trade him; probably getting a #1 pick. We still have him for the last 1/3 of the regular season, the playoffs and then can get something for him and control where he goes.

How about if he goes to the Jets next year for nothing ? Are the 10 games worth losing that control ?

I guess one good thing is that the win total stipulation is likely in double digits...so let's say its 12 wins....maybe they win 11, win the east, asante can be tagged.....Me, I'd much rather go 16-0

What are you talking about? We can't franchise him and trade him for a #1. This is an okay outcome for you, given the FACT that the Patriots had all kinds of leverage here? That Asante was, what, gonna BACK OUT and fly home and not collect nearly half a mill every week for ten weeks?

Good CHRIST, if they did this I'll be shocked. A PUTRID, terrible move mainly because it's COMPLETELY unnecessary.

The secondary the last 2 years we won the Superbowl was pretty

good until the injuries began to occur. This year's secondary includes

a washed up Tory James and an oft injured Randall Gay. Even if Gay

has a good, healthy year, he has New York Jet tattooed on his

forehead for next year.
