I was thinking along these same lines the other night the moment I heard some radio head say something like "well, they can't play the disrespect card this year."

I mean, getting passed over for Drew Henson the wonderkind while you're still the starter and led the team to it's best year in a while? Then getting picked 199th, and that's just supposed to fade away?

Curran did a great job adding some of the other players too - Harrison, Seau, Wilfork and Seymour, though he focused more on injury.

To that, I would add:
Bill Belichick - told he could never be a head coach by his own mentor Parcells. A Failure in Cleveland.
Bob Kraft - a side show character who just owned the stadium then the guy who "blew up" the one good thing the Pats ever had (Parcells), just like all the other failed owners before him.
Corey Dillon - told he would never be a "team player" or a winner
Seymour - insert Borges draft day quote here (a long list of "tweener" types who were too short, too small, too slow, too large, too whatever for any one spot).
Vrable - barely a backup in Pittsburgh
Neal - not even a football player

And maybe...
Meriweather - just another "punk from the U."

Any others?

probably similar cases on other teams, but otherwise interesting to note. it's what makes them successful professional athletes. The pressure drives and motivates

Nice article by Curran, but I could have sworn that Seau busted his arm against the Bears and not the Colts.

I've heard that before...always wondered why he said this... Care to enlighten me?

Why do people keep going with the "told he couldn't be a head coach" bit with Parcells?

Parcells was grooming him to be a head coach in his sarcastic way and BB chose to return to Parcells after Cleveland.

Belichick even admitted he was trying to copy Parcells personality which was a mistake, since he is not the boisterous sarcastic type.

Anyone that's followed Parcells know his motivational statements should be followed by many of these

and I'm certain that goes double for his protege.

Anyone that doesn't believe Parcells used sarcasm as a major motivational technique, I'd love to argue the point.

Hate to jump on the post, yes Pats use disrespect card whenever they can.

Parcells didn't respect you unless he told you you sucked, so I think that was reverse respect in that case.

Curran is great. I don't always agree with him, but he's very smart and an excellent writer. Plus I like his accent.

What about the wideout from Philly, including TO and the complete failure 1st rounderwith the harido, who claimed they didn't even know the names of the cornerback reserves who were starting for the injured Law and Poole in the SuperBowl? That was good bulletinboard material.
