Default Some Patriots Who I Think Could be Traded

If we can get a #6 for Gorin, we may get the same for some of these guys.

Marquis Hill - looks like the clock's going to hit midnight for him. With two Belichick guys in NY and Cleveland there may be a little interest in him.

Nick Kaczur - there were a few trade rumor rumblings before the draft and we drafted a couple of OT. Kaczur would need to be traded for more and I don't think we'd trade him but if they like O'Callaghan and Britt and think the draftees can be used for depth, this isn't impossible. Keep an eye on Cleveland still, the perception was Thomas would play LT and Shaeffer would move to RT - now I'm reading Schaeffer may be traded as he's never played RT so they could have a need.

Caldwell - clearly is usable for someone. Kind of extraneous for us and signed cheap for one more year.

Gaffney - see Caldwell.

Chad Jackson - More likely to be put on ice for a year, either PUPed, IRed or at the bottom of the 53 man depth chart. If his knee is healing, though, they may move on.

That's about it, I guess. Kaczur and Jackson would need to bring more than dump value, the others would be cheap if we traded them. Pre draft there were rumblings of Kaczur and Hill to Cleveland for Andra Davis. We still have a need at ILB, they still have a need a DE and will at RT if Schaeffer doesn't move there.

Why do people insist on giving up on Chad Jackson?

I think its MUCH more likely that we'll see Hochstein moved than Jackson. Yes, the Pats could move Kaczur, but its not likely because they don't have the depth behind him. O'Callaghan is a huge injury risk. Britt, though he's been in the system for 2 years, hasn't shown much. And then you have the two rookies.....

At least with Hochstein, the Pats still have Yates and Mruczkowski. Yates is proven while Mruczkowski is less so.

I agree that either Caldwell or Gaffney will be gone. There clearly isn't enough room for both. it would be nice to get some trade value instead of just flat out cutting one.

I'm not. I said "more likely to be put on ice" for this year. But I think it's possible. I think there probably was a maturity issue, it's been stated by too many sources including, most recently, Reis, in his mailbox IIRC. They may choose to move on. I don't THINK they will and I'm not giving up on him. But I'm talking about guys "I Think COULD" be traded and Jackson fits that, depending on health.

I gotta disagree here. I think that there is plenty of room for both Caldwell and Gaffney on this team. They do need 5 WRs. Caldwell and Gaffney represent much better talent than Kight or Childress.

Having a Caldwell and a Gaffney as the #4 and #5 receivers gives Brady guys that he's gone to before and that he knows. Moss, Stallworth and Welker are guys that Brady will have to get to know. And if one of those three goes down, having a Caldwell or a Gaffney to step is is better than having to rely on a Kelvin Kight or a Jonathan Smith.

My guess at our WR is :

Stallworth
Moss
Welker
Brown
Washington
Jackson.

Sure I could see Brown retiring, Washington being cut or Jackson being IRed. But those are the 6 I see.

I guess a 6th rounder is better than nothing. IMO Day 2 draft picks are full of romance but don't usually pan out. I did this chart before the draft to see how our roster was developed.

How Patriots were built - roster analysis

Why trade Jackson now? He has no value, considering he has done nothing in the NFL and is coming off an ACL injury.

You're smokin' it up with Randy if you think there's even the slightest chance NE would trade Chad Jackson.
