Default Moss/Jackson trades make Branch trade look like a steal!

Both Randy Moss and Darrell Jackson were traded for fourth round picks today. I know that Randy carries a lot of baggage and that Jackson isn't as young as Branch, but still, don't these deals make the first rounder we got for Branch seem like a steal?

The Branch trade was a steal, a crazy steal, because the Pat's pulled it off far from any deadline, like the draft or FA ending. Yeah, Branch sat out into the regular season, but instead of that costing the Pats more, it cost them less. The Pats traded away a non-factor (since Branch was sitting out) for another team's 1st pick. Now that pick could bea top 15 unless SF can continue its climb.

unfortunately the Niners were the team that got Darrell Jackson, so that should help them continue their devolpment.

Hopefully they still don't have enough to overtake Seattle.

It's kind of weird isn't it. Last year we were rooting for the Niners over the Seahawks, and now this year we have to root for the Seahawks over the Niners.

I see what you're trying to say, but it was actually our own 1st round pick that we traded for SF's 4th this year (which we traded to Oakland for Moss) and SF's first rounder next year.

We got Smurf Safety Brandon Meriweather for Meion Deion Branch.

Good point! (Although I could counter by saying that Sanders is great when he's not hurt.) But I don't really have anything against smurfs... I was just stating that he IS a bit undersized.

I'm not thrilled by Meriweather's size - I made it clear through the draft process that I wish he, Griffin and Nelson were bigger. But they are what they are and Safties are getting smaller these days as teams look for more coverage ability due to the multiple WR sets and faster TE.

I'd like to see Meriweather put on 6-10 lbs. You are right though BB, Bob Sanders is 5-8 206 and Ed Reed is 5-11 200. If Brandon put on 8 pounds he would be identical height and size of Ed Reed so I don't think his size is as big as an issue as some may think. It will be very important for him to keep himself conditioned but I think that is a no brainer to someone of his intensity and talent. I loved the pick immensly.

It's not unusually for rookies to put on weight because of the food programs of NFL teams. They go from college kids eating pizza at 2 in the morning to have regimented diets set up by nutritionists, and meals that are prepared by team cooks. Last year Maroney said he could believe how much they feed you. And he said that his playing weight in college was something like 190 and he went from that to 220!
