I think it is funny that many Pats fans didn't know who Harris was until it was written on PFT that he was a lock for us to take him at 28. Now the world is falling that we didn't take him and the Jets trade up to get him.

It would be hilarious if Belichick and Pioli leaked the story because they knew the Jets were interested in him and they were trying to make them reach for him.

That's a good one, but overall this year's names are pretty weak. Where are the D'Brickashaws, the Craphonsos of yesteryear?

Is anybody else a little freaked out that my response to primetime shows up 3 posts and an hour and a half before his? I guess it's been a long day for the database too.

Default People are getting too enamoured with names.

The concensus is the is a lousy draft class to begin with.

Out of the 60 players taken so far, I have watched MAYBE 10 of them in a game.

Meriweather. Saw the leg stomp. That's about it.

Revis. Hadn't seen him in one game. Also know in February he was a borderline 1st/2nd round pick.

Harris. Never heard of him until the draft mags came out. Was a late 2nd rounder to 3rd rounder at one point.

Even the guy I really wanted, Pat Willis, was a late 1st rounder in February. Never saw him play either. Saw a ton of Youtube coverage and he looked like a good fit.

My point about all this is after 3 months these names become engrained in our heads. The go from being draftable players to All-Pro sure things.

I think alot of teams suffer the same problem.

The Jets gave up half their draft for Revis. I hear he is good, but in my mind if you give up that much, you better be getting something just short of Champ Bailey.

Well said.

The hype over all the nailed on all-pro's in every 1st round every year is entertaining but ultimately unrealistic.

People also want immediate gratification - they want the big name pick and they want him now.

In my book the Patriots have ALOT of credit in the bak before I can think of questioning their personnel moves.

Amen! Who are we to knock the front office that brought us 3 of the last 6 Super Bowls? Just because we've bought a couple of draft guides, listened to mock-masters who did the same, watched some youtube highlights, and memorized the names of a few "can't miss instant impact players", doesn't give us the smarts to second-guess the organization.

BB and SP have the medical, intellligence and psych reports, the interviews, the college coaches' evals, and other intangibles. They've got a data bank of 1,500 players. Do we?

If the Pats, with their vast access to all of the above and more, had to draft our President, do you think they'd select George Bush? Let's see the results of the 2007 and 2008 seasons before casting the first stone.

The team decided that available funds were better spent in free-agency this year with known quantities. But this doesn't preclude a possible future Tom Brady (please, Lord!) with our 9 inexpensive second day picks. Anyone on this board think you can make those picks better than the braintrust?

Some of my favourites: Webster Slaughter (shame he was a receiver), Yancy Thigpen, Junior Say-ow....
