Everybody seems to be talking about getting the 1st round pick for Samuel and the 2nd round pick for Gay. My hope is that we re-sign both of these guys back. Having Samuel and a healthy Gay would be critical for us this year. This would really prevent us from having any glaring holes to fill for our Superbowl run. If we loose them both then we would have to replace our #1 CB and probably our #1 nickel. Remember Gay was the starting CB in our second superbowl victory (I think) and did a darn good job too. If he remains healthy this year, he would probably the comeback player of the year for our team. If we can do this, then we can really focus on drafting a LB and then start taking the best player available approach.

1.) Gay is NEVER healthy. A second round pick for him would be beyond awesome. This is not like a one yeay type of thing, the guy is always injured.
2.) Having Samuel would be great, but not at the price he is asking. What will you say if they fold and pay him Clements money ( which they never would) then he has a average year. Ill take the two first rounders. He has also proven himself to be somewhat of a greedy bastard. Two first rounders for him would be a god send. A third early first rounder plus a second rounder would be a god send. The pats have always used the draft. A surplus of great picks would be a good thing.
3.) the pats have plenty of picks to do whatever they want this year, right now.

Rodney is NEVER healthy too then, if you put it that way. He's still our STARTER. Let's just dump all our players who got hurt more than once. C'mon. If BB didn't value Gay's talent and contribution to the team, he wouldn't have tendered him so high.

I agree with you. Although I don't think they will sign Samuel at the price he wants, but it is his fault for not taking a fair offer. They just might be forced to trade him unless his asking price lowers. For Gay, I hope we match the Jests offer for him and he stays. He was a huge part of our success that year.

Do not think anyone would disagree, however the price for Samuel may be too high.. and a second for Gay may serve us well. Overpaying for Samuel, who has had one good year, might not be the best thing for this team. As far as drafting a LB, a lot of us want this, but with this team you never know what they will do with thier first pick..Mankins two years ago and Maroney last year.. who would've thunk??

I agree that Samual is crucial to the Pats , because he is great in the Pats system.. Randell Gay is a dime a dozen, Tory James is a upgrade, and would be good fill in for a guy that has not seen the field for a solid season.. But do agree I want Samual on the team in 2007

What has Randall Gay done in the last two years to warrant the Pats investing valuable cap dollars for his services? And If they do decide to do what you wish, how many of you will whine and complain about how STUPID they were for investing that money when Gay continues to languish on the IR list. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/493777
2005 he played in 5 games, racked up 12 tackles and one pass defensed
2006 he played in 3 games and racked up 2 tackles.
If the Pats do decide to keep him how much and how long should the contract be? Look I like Gay, I too think that he did well for us in 2004. But that was a long time ago, and he hasn't done much since. I'll be happy with a second round pick for an UDFA who can't stay on the field.
Asante is a different story. I hope that the Pats can find a way to work things out with him. We need him, IMO.

Refer to my previous post on Gay. Rodney hasn't done much for us since 2004 either, yet he's our starting SS. Injuries happen all the time in football.
Gay is injury PRONE, Rodney Harrison is just kind of old and had some bad breaks.
Gay looks like he's reed thin...looks like he'll break in half when he goes to tackle someone...and the way he ends up on IR, I guess he kind of does (break in half).
