Worst-case scenario, he made a mistake, it'll be corrected, whatever. "dope-slaps?" You people want to hate on the guy, fine, but maybe take a breath about it and don't oversell what ACTUALLY was written. That was nothing compared to what I thought it would be based on the thread title. I know you're all excited to take your shots, but it makes YOU look the worst out of everyone involved. No cred whatsoever. Good work.
and the mistake was ACTUALLY dopey.
Tomase is a sportswriter....what he wrote about the fines was ridiculous. He got called on it by PFT
and we laughed about it.
It's not worth your crusade for the downtrodden..
get over it.http://news.bostonherald.com/blogs/patriots/

To be honest, while I never thought that there would be "penalties" involved, and I understood that Samuel had until sometime in November to sign his tender, I did not take that to mean that he would collect 16 games worth of salary for playing 6 regular season games.
If that's the case I stand corrected as well - my expectation would have been that he would receive the pro-rated equivilent for reporting at Week 10 - i.e. $500k a game.
But this still changes nothing for what my stance would be on Samuel. While I'd prefer him to play the whole season I'd take him at Week 10 going into the playoffs if that's what he intends to do.
I'm much more concerned about setting the right precedent so players understand that the organization isn't going to back down in a game of contractual chicken by trading every guy who holds out.
Until that precedent is established, player after player after player is going to run the same "play" as Branch and possibly Samuel.

What he said.
Samuel and his representation remember how Meion beat the patriots. And unless and until this FO gives him close to what he wants, Samuel will do the exact same thing, because he knows that, besides Hobbs, this organization has nobody who can replace him.
Just saying the frantic, hysterical pile-on of Tomase for making, then correcting, an innocent mistake is especially annoying to those of us who watch you guys ***** about him for things that he didn't do at all - stuff you guys just MAKE UP out of whole cloth. You get pi$$ed at him when he scoops everyone about Bruschi's injury, then where exactly are you when it turns out he was RIGHT and ahead of the curve.
Every now and then someone makes a mistake, as he did, and because you've miscast Tomase as Borges 2.0, you people start frothing at the mouth. All of this is, I think, beneath the bar of what this website USED to be, and occasionally still is. My defense here is for Tomase, sure, but even more than that it's for a sense of fairness and a level of objectivity and rational thought that many people here seem quite willing to taint with ego-driven fan-boy hysteria.
I'll take reading and listening to Tomase ANY day over Borges. AND over Felger who has become almost as rotten to listen to as Borges. AND over Dickerson who is trying hard to get into the league of Borges and Felger, but probably doesn't have the horsepower to get there - but he is SO preoccupied with being RIGHT and making PREDICTIONS that he is disgusting to listen to in his own way.
For those folks who don't like Tomase very much, I would still highly recommend his article on the Patriots proclivities in the draft. I think it is a really excellent piece.
And a measure of how smart he is is evidenced by the old saw - by how much he agrees with many many observations posted by some of the perceptive posters here on this board.
