Law was a mercenary too, as was Curtis Martin. That doesn't mean that they weren't great players.

Tuna was the best head coach we had in the 20th century.

The franchise might not have survived without Mike Holovak.

So Fairbanks becoming a lame duck coach and leaving, or announcing he was leaving and ruining what had been a great season in 1978 was ownership's fault? All I heard in California at the time was that Fairbanks finked out and I've despised him since. He apparently didn't do any damage control.

Attn: Fanfrom1960:

After the Pats were robbed by Ben Dreith in 1976, Chuck Fairbanks

began to make plans for the 1977 season. He began by attempting to

re-sign John Hannah and Leon Gray to new contracts. He came to an

agreement with these players but was over ruled by Chuck Sullivan.

The players held out for two games and the Pats missed the playoffs

by one game. Fairbanks got them back to the playoffs one last time

in 1978. He was so ticked of by Sullivan's interference that he accepted

the job as coach of Colorado U. when it was offered to him.

I'm glad to see I started a trend of the "best blank is Pats history" threads.

OK, I heard none of that, but info to the West Coast wasn't like today, and, of course, no Internet yet. Thanks.
