Default Asante and his opinions on the tag

Has anyone heard ANYTHING regarding Asante's opinion on being tagged?

We heard nasty feelings about the tag from Charles Grant in New Orleans and now Lance Briggs in Chicago - seems like with the BIG contracts being signed this week more and more tagged players are speaking out and some more unhappy tagged players likely to come.

I have not heard or read any dissatisfaction from Samuel anywhere and maybe he is just doing the Patriots way of dealing with team issues and thats keeping quiet or maybe he knows once the FA period is over and draft picks have been signed the FO will negotiate or maybe they told him its a guaranteed extension in due time..I don't know but would like to know if he is at least content with the choice,we want a happy Asante - A happy player is a productive player IMO.

I hope the huge Signing contract Clements got does not seep into his brain and lash out like Briggs and Grant have done.

I guess no news is good news....Lets hope he comes to camp and his agent does not act like a dick like Rosenhaus or Condon and does'nt try to keep him on hold.

He doesn't like it. Theres no reason for him to. I don't think he went public with his discontent.

I'm sure he wishes he could participate in this windfall atmosphere, but he can't. Its like I'm sure a lot of players wish THIS was their FA year. On the other hand, he made $400,000 last year and will make $7,800,000 THIS year. I know it could have been more, but the fact is he is now set for life... AND is still young enough to have MORE HUGE pay days in the future, IF he plays up to that level

Simply put: If Asante plays next seaon like he did in the 2nd have of last years, the Pats will pay up. Because if he does then only Champ Bailey is better

Nate Clements and his deal tells me he is right up there with those 2 in terms of talent - Don't forget him.

Sure he can. All he has to do is sit down with the Patriots and negotiate a long-term extension. I'm sure they'd love to get it done.

Problem for Asante is he can take a career ending injury this year *knock on wood* and has no $$ guaranteed. Not the ~20 mil he could have. Plus he can have a horrible season and never land the contract he could have this year. But like you say he's getting 7.8mil this year so.. you can only complain so much.

If Asante were smart, he'd get a new long-term deal done with the Pats. His market value is never likely to be higher. The fact that they tagged him shows that they would be likely to do a very attractive long-term deal.

Asante has a non exclusive tag. It means his agent can shop him around. But then the other team has to negotiate a deal with the pats for his release, or surrender 2 consecutive #1 picks. So he isn't happy, but he cant be as mad as those with the exclusive tag on their heads. He's not so trapped, like the others. One way or another, I see Asante with a long term deal this year.
