Default #60 pick over the last 7 years

2006 Maurice Drew, RB UCLA
2005 Kelvin Hayden, CB Illinois
2004 Courtney Watson MLB Notre Dame
2003 Tyrone Calico, WR Tenessee
2002 Anton Paleopi DE Nevada Las Vegas
2001 Andre Dyson CB UTAH
2000 Brad Meester C Northern Iowa

Overall... a crap shoot. Other than Drew, either busts or serviceable players.
If you can get a KNOWN quantity like WElker...who will be able to contribute immediately and is only 25 seems like a shrewd move on a percentage wise basis...espeecially if SP and BB think he is a good fit.

Hopefully Miami will not match

Question Re: #60 pick over the last 7 years

Welker is a known commodity with multiple skills that hopefully will be more valuable to us than Miami. We are at our peak and Fins are trying to find themselves - here's hoping they want the 2nd for rebuilding purposes.

If you look at the WHOLE second round, the Pats have in the BB era drafted:

1 solid starter who's been a Pro Bowl alternate once
1 Super Bowl MVP who's never approached a Pro Bowl
1 good young starter who's steadily regressed
1 injury bust
2 healthy busts
1 who it's too early to judge

The two best picks of that group were made at #48 and #64.

(Or did Deion come in one of those funky years when Houston had extra mid-round picks?)

The Welker deal is a no brainer for the 60th pick. Especially when you already have two #1's. I hope Miami doesn't match. Welker is a real Patriots type player.

Well if the Phins FO listened to their fans, he would already be at the airport bags packed and driven there by the fans. They want this to happen so they can get our 2nd round pick. They like Welker but feel like they will be getting the better of the deal with our 2nd round pick.

Pretty much. Welker is a HUGE fan favorite but a 2nd round pick is just too much to pass over.

Also it's long been rumored him and Chambers cannot play on the same team together. Chambers is only any good in the slot and welker only plays slot, so there is a log jam at the position.

As long as the contract makes sense financially I would give up a second round pick for a 25 yo WR who will start and can catch 70 passes (or more) a year!
