So because Welker's younger we're giving up a second for him? Doesn't make sense to me.

Not only would the money be absurd, I also think it's silly to give a 2nd round pick to Miami for Welker, considering the WR position is pretty deep this year in the draft. There are likely going to be several WRs at around our 2nd round pick who should be just as good as Welker, for much less money, and without letting a divisional rival have another day 1 pick. That would be just absurd. I really hope that's not true.
Are you numbskulls insinuating you know more about these players and the market and draft pick value than Belioli?
Welker is a self motivated, hard nosed Belichick type football player. And quite a replacement for a potentially retiring smurf. Ever wonder why Stallworth is available again? Want to draft another Fla WR in the second round and see how long it takes him to assimilate an NFL offense, barring injury? Want to lay odds on which one blows a knee first returning kicks - our feature RB or our only starting CB under contract and guaranteed to show for TC?
The poison pill was probably pretty easy like he has to be the highest paid WR on the roster when signed....

let's put it this way. A 2nd round pick can only be signed for 4 years, and is a risk. Let's say its 50/50 whether the pick pans out. Wes just signed for say, 5 years, and we know what we are getting.

According to Rodney Harrison, new wide-receiver Wes Welker was “a pain in the butt” to deal with when he was with the Dolphins. “We had to double-team him because no one could stick with him man-to-man,” Harrison said.
no I don't think we are actually paying that. There are phony years in there, and there is a clause in there that says if the Dolphins match, those phony years become guaranteed.
Count on a reasonable first 3/4 years with the last few years absurd, and a clause that states something stupid like if he plays in at least 4 home games in Miami, the whole contract is guaranteed. Miami cant match it, so the Pats get him, they get a #2 draft choice, and he gets a 3 year deal with restructuring on the horizon.
Welker is a perfect Pats WR. Quick separation, tough in tight coverage in the middle, durable, good with YAC, runs very clean routes, good hands good punt returner. Think: a cross between pee-on and Troy Brown. And 25. Thats one hell of a second round draft choice.
Action Jackson ( ) is gonna be back this year. For those of you who want a fast tall WR to stretch the field and clear the intermediate zones, he's it. For those of you who actually still labor under the delusion that one of those field stretchers will actually ever be a #1 in our system, I pity you. There will never be peace in your mind until BB and Brady are retired......

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think people are hoping this isn't a Starks fiasco. 2nd rounder, hmmmmmmmmmm.

Actually the more I think about it...I mean some of us want Anthony Gonzalez in the first, we basically get the same thing, but proven for a second rounder. I'm kind of t'ed off about giving the Dolphins a first day pick I guess.

I want to hear Tomase or Reiss chime in, see if they can confirm the numbers. I don't doubt Schefter, but maybe they can provide more of a breakdown on the deal.
