Default Eagles: Stallworth offer unlikely

http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/16785312.htm

"Team sources confirmed there is no chance of Garcia returning to the Eagles, and they also confirmed that the team is very unlikely to make an offer to pending free-agent wide receiver Donté Stallworth."

Very interesting news. Stallworth was confident that he would be with the Eagles next year, but that looks like it is not happening. I think the majority here would love to have him for the right price.

Since he caught 38 balls compard to Reche Caldwell 61, I guess that offer out to be 38/61 of Reche's salary. I think that put him below league minimum...

Blasphemy! Do you not accept the truth that Donté Stallworth is better than Reche Caldwell?

I think a healthy Stallworth is better than Caldwell. Most would likely agree. Only problem is a healthy Stallworth is not exactly a sure thing.

Stallworth is a good receiver, but I'm not sure he's clearly better than Caldwell at this point in their careers. To wit:

Code:
Player DPAR Rank PAR Rank DVOA Rank VOA Passes Yards TD Catch %
Caldwell	15.7 32 12.7 37 9.4% 32 4.1% 102 767 4 60%
Stallworth	12.3 39 13.6 33 7.4% 35 10.4% 78 725 5 49%
Football Outsiders makes the caveat that wide receivers' performance metrics cannot be separated from that of their quarterbacks, and while this would normal favor Tom Brady's receivers, McNabb had a Pro Bowl year until he was injured, and Jeff Garcia quarterbacked rather effectively afterwards.

I posted this in another thread:

In 5 seasons...

Branch: 266 rec, 3469 yards, 18 TDs, 13.0 avg
Stallworth: 233 rec, 3561 yards, 28 TDs, 15.1 avg

Out of the possible 80 regular season games in 5 years...Deion has played 67 games and Stallworth has played 68.

As I said in that thread as well, I'd rather have Deion, he's a better all around receiver, but Stallworth is pretty good himself.

Thanks for posting Stallworth stats. I think statistically its his ypc and TDs that separate him from Caldwell.

(Looking at that, still can't believe Pats got a #1 for Branch. Crazy.)

I don't think that they are the same type of WR either. They play two very different games. IMO you can't compare them equally.

The person who suggests that Stallworth should get a mimimum salary offer

has a hole in his head. I got news for him. In 2008 both Jabar Gaffney and

Reche Caldwell will have new homes with much higher salaries.

Your joke detector needs new batteries.

I think the stats accurately represent their two different games, and IMHO you can compare them because they were their team's #1 WR. Caldwell was in fact our leading wide receiver, while Stallworth lost out to Reggie Brown in yards (due to injury) and was far far behind Westbrook in catches. In fact, I'd go on to say that Reche Caldwell was the focal point of our passing offense in a way that Stallworth was not. Philly's offense flows through McNabb and Westbrook.
