Default The reason why Marquise Hill is still on this team

Easy answer:
6'6" 300 lbs.

You just do not find guys with that size very often. I know that Hill has not done anything to warrant a spot on the roster, but he came out of school early and is very young and raw. I have no idea if the coaches have seen enough progress for him to stick around any longer, but I imagine that they will keep him around if they think he could help out long term. Guys with his size and the potential he showed in college are hard to come by,and with more teams going to a 3-4, keeping them is very important.

I for one would like to see his name show up more this offseason as someone who is making some big steps in his progression, or I think it is time to free up that spot on the roster for someone else.

Keep him. It took Ty Warren a few years to get going, too. Plus, Hill just hasn't had a chance to play with the talent in front of him.

Great, let's free up the roster spot for someone who will do the same exact thing as Marquise.

What the **** do you expect Marquise to do? Beat out Seymour and Warren for the starting spots? Steal playing time from them? He's the prime example of why drafting the best player available, not for need, isn't always the best.

Give me a break.

I don't see why his size is such a big deal. I'M* 6'6"* 300*, and I don't have a shot at making the roster.

*lie.

I fully backed this reasoning for the first couple years, but the truth is unavoidable, now. Hill is a waste.

In the past two years (Hill's 2nd and 3rd) Wilfork, Seymour and Warren have all missed time. Green has also had some injury issues. In spite of this, Hill has been glued to the bench.

I mean, an undrafted rookie stepped in an played more his rookie year than Hill did in both years combined. Yes Wright has filled in on the nose and that is not Hill's position, but I would be willing to bet that Wright played more at DE in the final 6 games of the season than Hill did in both years.

On top of all of this circumstancial evidence, Hill has looked ungodly terrible just about every time he takes the field.

Unless Hill makes a remarkable 4th year leap he is gone from this team. It isn't just an issue of being behind guys, he isn't any good.

Warren was solidly in the rotation by the playoffs of his rookie year.

He started every game of his second season.

There is no comparison.

This should be the decision year for Hill. If he can't be productive

this year , he should be cut. Next year is his last year and then on to

free agency.

What he said.
Hill is perennially inactive.
I watched him every summer in camp. He does not persue the play. Lazy.
When he DID play against the Jets in 2006, (we were desperate Warren was out and Sey just coming off his injury and ineffective) he got pulled (for Wright) after just a few plays where he simply danced with the OT as the runner blew by.

There are many 6'6" college players who don't even get a tryout in the pros.
Saban screwed Belichick geting him to waste a 2nd round pick on Hill.

And speaking of bad 2nd round picks...nah, forget it!

So Saban lied to Belichick to make himself look good (send another of his kids to the NFL)??

Sorry, Hill had his shot and he failed. He wasn't even making the active roster every week. It was his third year in the league and he couldn't even make it to the active roster as a back up. He would have been long gone if he wasn't a second round pick. I think his draft status won't save him from being cut before the final 53 man roster is set in September. We will probably keep him into training camp though since we have plenty of cap space.
