Re: bill simmons article: colts like 04 sox
There are scary similarities between the Pats and Yankees that I hope do not persist. Both teams had historical chokejobs in the playoffs against their rivals. Both looked like they were going to be dominant teams for a long time and then suddenly fell off (i.e. stopped winning championships). Most worrisome is that BOTH fell off through their OWN unforced errors and by doing things out of character. Ex. Yankees decline began in 2001 with the awful, shocking error on a basic bunt and blown save by Mariano Rivera. Yankees then lost mainstay "Yankee type" players like O'Neill and Brosiuss and the newcomers didn't perform as well. Pats decline began with a ton of unPatriotlike errors, followed by an unPatriotlike chokejob. Pats have lost many mainstay guys and the new guys are not performing as well, (for the most part). Yankees, for the past few years have gotten away from their winning mold (i.e. less patient batters, terrible-average pitching, bad-average defense). Pats are getting away from their winning mold (i.e. physical football, sure tackling, patience, creativity and flexibility. Hopefully the Colts will be just like the Sox the year after their championship (first round loss)
