Default More Raiders/McDaniels Rumors

http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9934838

Just like the Dolphins have an under-the-radar coaching candidate, so do the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders are eyeing Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who has the distinction of becoming the youngest offensive coordinator in NFL history. McDaniels was 29 when he accepted the coordinator position Charlie Weis vacated for Notre Dame.

Since last season, the Patriots have fed McDaniels a steady diet of expanding offensive responsibilities.

But McDaniels might have saved his best work for the divisional round, when he showed the Raiders he could help pick up every Chargers blitz.

This made him all the more attractive to Raiders owner Al Davis.

Plus there's this: Whereas the Patriots reduced the responsibilities of former defensive coordinator Eric Mangini last season, they have increased McDaniels'. The problem is the Raiders cannot interview McDaniels until the Patriots' season ends, which might not be until Feb. 4.

I get a kick out of these rumours. Some of us, as Patriots fans, spent the whole year screaming that McDaniels was too young to be an offensive coordinator. How the hell is he already in talks to be a head coach??

He's can't be in talks until the season's over for the Pats (whether it be next Monday or after the Super Bowl). That what kept Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel here for an extra year. This rule was implemented after Parcells bolted for the NYJ's after the '96 SB.

All this McD stuff is speculation at this point.

They're not new rumors. The same "expert" keeps saying the same thing. Nobody else has reported on this except for maybe PFT. The Raiders are set to hire James Lofton according to most accounts.

Typical example of other teams overvaluing anything that has to do with the Patriots.

Plus, if Art Shell can't control Moss and Porter, how does a 29 year old guy who they have never heard of have any prayer of controlling them?

Mangina's success has likely locked that way of thinking in for a while

True. I also was referring to players though. Remember the contract Damien Woody got? Givens got a huge deal too. Both were great here, but are much more valuable to the Pats than they would be elsewhere.

This is false. Michael Smith was reporting this on ESPN on Monday Morning.
