If we traded our two first rounders for a higher pick?
I'm not for a moment suggesting that this is what would happen - and nor do I think it should given how much value BB and SP have found in the bottom third of the first found in the past - but just supposing there was someone higher they wanted to take a shot at, what would a combination of the 24th and either 28/30/31 pick get us? Anyone have any idea?

Re: If we traded our two first rounders for a higher pick?
funny you would say this as this was asked to kraft recently and he answered that from a financial point of view a later than 15 th 1st pick is the best pick one can have.
every pick is a hit or miss but later first rounder due to not breaking the team`s cap future are best bet.You can get a decent to terrific starter.
So i think nfl being a business and bb/scott/kraft running it as a sucessfull business i doubt this even be talked from a risk point of view.
if i would say below 15 before 10 with a hugh contract .

I read the interview with Kraft about the draft picks, and I figure it's unlikely we move too far. (Although I also wonder whether one stellar pick at say 8 or 9 might cost the same in the long run than paying two first rounders?)
I've just been cruising around a few mock boards and got to wondering whether number 24 and 32 combined would be good enough to get you to number 10 say, or only number 15.

Re: If we traded our two first rounders for a higher pick?
I agree with Kraft - it's a great situation for the organization - stay put
I'd love to see them take 2 first round ILB's in this draft who arrive at the same time and develop a great bond and communication for years to come.
Keep Tedy and Seau for 1-2 more years to mentor them and play a decreasing percentage of snaps as they get to their second and third year.
With the $30 million under the cap, I'm beginning to ease towards paying Asante the money and at worst franchising Graham. I'm against this technically, but with the big jump in the cap and the advantage of keeping guys who know the system well in place, I am beginning to change my thinking a little on this.
Go for a WR in the second round.
Then, work out a ridiculous trade with pansy/idiot Dan Snyder to bring Adam Archuletta over here for LeKevin Smith whom Dan thinks is due for a payday.

.
Another factor is that many of the underclassman coming out early appear to be QB, RB, DLineman, positions at which the Pats appear set for the immediate future. The end result is that teams drafting before the Pats who might have needs at those positions, would be more inclined to take them leaving WR,LB,DB of a higher quality who might have been drafted earlier increasing the value of both the picks relative to trading it for one higher pick.
Re: If we traded our two first rounders for a higher pick?
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pats move up a few slots to nab a player they really like, a la Warren. But trading your draft for one top pick has historically been a shaky move -- think Ricky Williams and Eli Manning.
Here's what keeps running through my head draft-wise: when was the last time the Patriots drafted a real impact defender outside of the 3-man line? Last year they restocked the offense with youth, speed and strength. Time for the same, in quantity, on defense.

That's a good point. Looking at a lot of these drafts they are stocked with defensive linemen, QBs and RBs and there do appear to be quite a few decent defensive backs in the 20-32 slots. Not as many linebackers though.

Here is a value board that gives a number to each pick for trade value- enjoy!

Hopefully the 32nd.
