So. Our combined first rounders could take us to 8 or 9 at best, while our second rounder plus number 24 might get us to roundabout number 16.

An interesting academic exercise.

How do the Patriots get the 24th pick is my question? Is it posted somewhere?

In the draft, I hope we go BPA.

In FA, I hope we sign at least one of these 3, and hopefully 2 of them: Adalious Thomas, Lance Briggs, London Fletcher.

In the lower rounds, the Patriots should really consider drafting Penn State RB Tony Hunt. He would be a perfect complement to Maroney for after Dillon's retirement.

It's the pick Seattle handed over for Mr Three Catches for 38 yards and six million bucks.

Umm - yes. We traded Branch to seattle for their first rounder; which ended up at 24.

We won't combine both first round picks, I can just about promise you!

But we will very likely move up one of them, like the 28-32 pick, if we feel the need to pick ahead of somebody. We pick ahead of the Jets with the Hawks pick, but may want to move up just to make sure the Jets don't also trade up for a common player of interest.

But we just are not going to throw out the chance to get two good players in the first round. Bioli is about taking lesser known guys and coaching them up, he is not about blowing it all on a glamour pick. we will get two decent starters, IMO.

Are you kidding? Pioli & BB will take one and trade the other for 3 second rounders!

I think the Pats should take the 24th and a later round pick to move up to somewhere around 18-20 if possible, and with that pick take Florida's Reggie Nelson.

Is it just me or should this definately be reworked with the new CBA. I don't know the exact details but I believe can you sign all picks below 16 for 6 years and 16+ in the 1st round for 5 years. Then the rest of the draft is 4 years. This is all coming from memory, but in this theory wouldn't the last pick of 6 years threshold be worth an immense amount more then the 5 year contract pick? I know this is getting a little ridiculous in the detail but it is definetly something like Belichick and Kraft would value.

I think that's an excellent point. Combine the lower cap cost of later picks, the lack of consensus after the top handful of picks and the contract thresholds, and you should get a near plateau approaching #16, then a sharp drop at 17 with a deceleration to 32, then another drop.

The best cost/benefit slots in the draft are 16 and 32. Hmm...didn't somebody just mention that packaging #24 and a 2nd would put the Pats around #16? And of course we're all gunning for #32. That pair of picks would be oh-so-Patriotlike.
