Good grief, Spencer for Mankins? That would be a deal I'd do in a minute. Spencer, a somewhat disappointing former first round pick, who's big and strong and 6 years younger than Burgess, would be a dynamite addition to our D even if he doesn't represent full 'value' for a horse like Mankins. Maybe Spencer isn't an elite passrusher but he'd certainly have a more positive effect on our D than Burgess seems able to manage.

I'd do this trade because letting Mankins rot at home just to prove a point isn't going to help our team. If anyone was offering a first for Mankins I bet the Pats would have taken it by now. Thus, Mankins' relative, immediate 'value' is reduced and turning him into a useful, maybe even blooming talent, like Spencer would be - a fair trade. Just what we're looking for.

I wouldn't blame BB for trying a squeeze a 4th or 5th out of the Cowboys along with Spencer but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me - remember, Mankins is about to sign a monster contract and the team that trades for him has to take that into account when considering what 'value' Mankins has to them. How about throwing in Burgess for a sweetener? Please?

The Cowboys O-line doesn't look so hot, a bare knuckle type like Mankins might be just what Jerry ordered. But, of course, this move makes way too much sense for both teams so count on it not happening.

The only reasonable pass rusher I could see going in a trade for Mankins would be Mathias Kiwanuka, and only because Kuwanuka has been injury prone and never really found a place in the Giants D. This is pure speculation of course, I see the Giants needing interior line help and I don't think Kiwanuka fits into their plans anymore.

In reality, Kiwanuka would be a project at OLB in the 3-4, a total crapshoot actually, and a 3rd round pick would probably be as valuable if not more.

Really I think there's no possibility of a Mankins trade netting a pass rusher who improves the 2010 team. Look around the league, there are very few guys who fit that role, that talent needs to be drafted. The best bet is, if he's really not going to play, to dump him off to an NFC contender for a 3rd and a 2012 pick.

It's not a satisfying result, but really probably the most realistic.

Anthony Spencer, had a Career year with 6 sacks last year. Manny Lawson, had a Career last year with 6.5 sacks they both play in two of the most aggressive defenses in the NFL how do you think they will do in the pats system playing in front of a weak D line ? not much better then Burgess, IMO

let's hope Jermaine Cunningham, can get healthy soon and bring something to the table cause he's all the pats got right now as far as OLB options go

How about Mankins for Chris Canty (+ a pick)? I know he's not an OLB, but he's sure as hell a solid 3-4 DT that could replace Mike Wright. Hasn't he also has been misused on that Giants team (like Kiwanuka who really isn't a 3-4 OLB anyhow)?

That or send Mankins to Pit for Jason Woirlds (+ a pick). He might not have the size for BB's 3-4 though.

Wait for the Jets to sign Adalius and then trade Mankins for him.

Pass rush? All I want to see is a collapsed pocket pushed back into the opposing QB's face.

OK, I'll say it since no one else did (that I saw in my brief perusal of this thread).

No one's going to trade anyone to the Patriots for Mankins since the Patriots can't trade Mankins - he's not under contract. And trying to get him under contract without the Patriots giving him a lot of money up front seems to me to be a really big deal (i.e. it's not going to happen).

On the other hand, this thread hasn't devolved into the shouting matches that some find troublesome, so just keep right on posting.

You think he would ever tell LM?

So you're saying that the Patriots should pay off LM's agent so that he'll get Mankins to sign? Here's what's wrong with that:

The agent could be sued by LM.
The agent would be de-certified.
The agent could be dis-barred if he's an attorney.
The Patriots could also be sued.
Roger Goodell wouldn't pass up the opportunity to fine, suspend, and take draft choices away from both Belichick and Kraft.

Other than that, I don't see a problem with it.
