My Mood:
Scenario where Pats Don't make playoffs?
Could someone briefly describe for me the scenario
whereas,the Pats DON'T get the # 6 seed?
Pats lose last two:
1.Jets at 10-6,win division
2.Denver at 10-6 win # 5 cede
Pats at 10-6 conference record can lose the # 6 cede to what team or teams?
Thanks,Peter

If we lose both and the Jets win both we are in really bad shape to make it as a Wild Card if tie breakers are involved.
If we were to end up tied at 10-6 with 2 other teams, they will probably get in over us based on conference record. Since none of the teams are likely to be in the same division and it will be conference record determining the spot and we will have all 6 losses in the conference.
My understanding is if we lose 2 and the Jets win 2, so we don't win the division we are left with the possibility of 3 teams being tied with us. Cincinnati, Denver, and Jacksonville.
Now Cincinnati plays Denver, so one of those teams will automatically be out. That leaves us with hoping that the winner of Cinci/Denver loses another game or that Jacksonville loses one game. Now if Cinci beats Denver, I believe we have the tie breaker over Cinci, due to head to head.
So the only way we are out is if we lose 2, the Jets win 2, Jacksonville wins 2, and Denver wins 2. Jacksonville plays KC in their last game, and Denver plays SanFran after Cinci.
The thing I don't know is what happens if 3 of us are tied at 10-6 but I am sure someone will chime in.
If Cinci beats Denver, the Jets win out and the Pats lose two, the Pats are in b/c they have the head-to-head tie-breaker over Cinci. Losing out means Jacksonville has the 5th slot if they can win in KC. It will be a moot point when NE wins 20-3 on Sunday.
Again I dont want to think about this tiebreaker and that , win on sunday bottom line.. Because if we dont and the Jets win, It may not be a happy new yr..

Not necessarily.
If the Pats and Cincy end up tied at 10-6 with Jacksonville, our win over Cincy is irrelevant. Head to head only is a tiebreaker in a 3 team tie if you swept both other teams. If no one did that (and in this scenario no one would have) conference record is the tie-breaker and we would not make it.

It goes to first tie breaker for multiple teams, conference record.
So, Pats need to win one to get into the playoffs as the division champ. They do not have a shot at a wild card. Win the division or go home, that simple.

Not true. Jacksonville could still lose in their last game on the road in Kansas City and finish 9-7 leaving the Pats, Jets, and the Denver/Cin winner (assuming that team wins out) at 10-6 and all 3 would be in.
This is a whole lot of talk about something that is not likely. The Pats are probably not going to lose the last 2 and the Jets are probably going to lose in Miami this week.
