Default Rumor or more? Charlie Weis heading to NY Giants?

Was listening to Sirius NFL radio yesterday and they were saying that Charlie wants nothing more in life itself than to be the New York Giants Head Football Coach someday and there is an escape clause in his Notre Dame contract which would allow him to go after his dream if asked by the Mara family to be coach for the Giants.

They went on to say that if the Giants fire Coughlin and staff if the team does not live up to expectations like making the playoffs, that Charlie would likely jump on the opportunity immediately - Interesting subject that may become real in the offseason.

They also said Pete Carroll could head to the Arizona Cardinals but the chances were very slim,Especially concidering the constant powerhouse USC is every year and besides the fact that Carroll blows as a NFL Head Coach which would not help the Cardinals out whatsoever.

I would be very surprised if he left ND. There's so much tradition with the Irish, he's an alumnus and he hasn't won a National Championship with them yet.

Considering how weak the NFC East is(and believe it or not, the Panthers, their next opponent, have alot more issues than they do), the Giants are going to make the playoffs-meaning that Coughlin will be safe.

I think Coughlin's gone. Even if they make the playoffs I think they are 1 and done. If Weis goes to NY think of that next year. 2 with Mangini and the Jets, 1 with the Tuna (if he stays), 1 with Charlie, and 1 with Romeo (if he makes it another year). That would be fun.

Hasn't Charlie also said that HC of ND is his dream job? I wonder which it is ND or NYG.

Tummy Tuck would be best suited to make the move to the NFL. He loses a ton off his overrated Irish team this year and they will likely fall back next year. If he leaves this offseason, he'll be a hero at ND (even by leaving). Plus, the Giants job is one of those glamour jobs in the NFL. He wouldn't be starting from zero.

Coughlin has been a trainwreck in NY. CW grew up as a Giants fan so I'm sure that even though he's said how much he loves it at ND, I'd have to think that if he had the opportunity to coach his favorite team growing up that he'd have to think pretty long and hard about it.

As for Carroll, he's already had his HC shot in the NFL and knows what it is all about. He's got recruits jumping over each other to get the opportunity play for him at USC with a very good (albeit not guaranteed) shot at a national title every year. He's treated like royalty. Plus he gets to live in So Cal.

Although, the same was said of Spurrier. But that me be a good example to him to stay put.

That was addressed on Inside The NFL and the first thing they said was there was a huge buyout penalty at ND. The Giants have a lot of money though. You can watch Inside The NFL again tonight and tomorrow (and Sun morn?) on HBO. They said he'd love the Giants job but he also loves ND.

Maybe but Charlie's draft kids start filtering in next year, and they should overall be better than Willingham's drafts. I think NDs back to being a power year after year.

He might want to wait until the "Eli" era is over before he returns to the Giants.

The NFC East might not be that dominate, but they are a little harder than playing the Service Academies three times a year.

Charlie is still playing with Ty's recruits, next year his guys will start breaking into the starting lineups. That will really begin to show what kind of college coach he can be.
