Does Patfans need an *****clown forum ?

While patsfans was down, many of us refugees were welcomed with open arms by the folks over at the Planet.

One unique feature of that board struck me as sheer genius - the "*****clown forum".

The way it works is this: When a poster on that site goes out of control or over the line (whether it is a troll from another team, or just a patriots fan who annoys the entire site), and the crime is somewhat short of an "instant banning" offense, the mods institute a poll on whether to "*****clown" the perp or not.

If the perp is found guilty (by a simple majority), the perp is not banned, but instead restricted to posting ONLY in the "*****clown" forum. It is truly "democracy in action"

It seems to me that this forum is a fantastic idea because:

- It allows you to keep around some of the trolls who, while annoying on the pats forum, are fun to play with, if you so choose.

- Provides a punishment short of banning for those folks that are perpetually making nuisances for themselves.

- Reduced workload on the mods, as the threat of "being voted off the island" will make most of the worst posters on this site think twice before hitting "Submit".

Of course, this being patsfans, we can call it something else. They don't have the same effect as the Planet name, but perhaps we could call it "Bethel's Bench", "Rodney's Timeout" or "Hoculi's Hangout". Also, it doesn't have to be forever - it can be for 7,30,60 days etc.

It's a deterrant, and provides a middle ground between full freedom and being banned fully.

Actually that's a great idea. I really, really like it. So not only is it a punishment purgatory for the bad kids from this page, but it'd also be a distraction page for those 'BENVCH BRADY START CASEL!~!@#' type posters. Super!!!

Just because you've been Assclowned on that site doesn't make you a shoo-in to have the same thing happen here, though I guess I see why you're worried.

But really NEM, if it's just a small handfull of 'instigators' you're worried about, aren't you reassured that the mass of people that agree with you will even out the vote and the majority would not vote you in?

Again, how does it lower the class of the forum to remove the lower class posters? That makes no sense.

This forum is well policed, and well contained...and if there are some posts in here that you, or others dont like, dont respond to them, becuase its usually the type of responses that instigate the problems. Just dont get involved if you dont like it, plain and simple.

Every word you write drips of the fear you have for a policy being set in motion that might remove you. And I'm sure that the person that posted this Assclown idea didn't even have you directly in mind. Why are you so personally afraid of it?

When yo initiate aa forum such as is being suggested, you open the door for animosities to open up, and this forum does not need any more of that crap... You, and a few others have done enough damage already.

There are plenty of animosities already flying around, now aren't there? It seems to me that when you institute a democratic system of punishment that it'd actually decrease animosities because hot headed posters would have to actually calm down and think before they post or face the democracy's choices.

How, exactly, have I done any damage to this forum? Please explain it to me, I'd love to know. I'd also love to know if Ian agrees with this.
