Default Patriots offered Mankins Top 3 Guard Pay

According to the Boston Globe:

Extra Points - New England Patriots News and Analysis - Boston.com

Mankins was offered a contract that would make him the third highest paid guard in the NFL, including all of the appropriate guarantees and bonuses according to Breer.

Edit: Mankins responded by calling the Krafts liars.

Screw Bauer and the Cowboy he rode in on. Hes a Guard trade his azz, id rather use the money tp pay a top flight D-line man.

It's increasingly reading like Logan Mankins is receiving some incredibly poor advice from his agent Frank Bauer. Reading Bauer's comments it's easy to infer that the disconnect appears to be coming from exceptionally poor management.

I can't see how the Patriots don't come out of this smelling like roses and Mankins like a fat cow in a field of **** given it's been reported he was to be paid top three guard money with large guarantees.

I forget what the exact quote on here was, but it was something about how the instant he mentions money, it's no longer about keeping your word. That's how I feel right now.

In principle, I agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if the media conveniently ignores the facts and commences with the hatchet job on the Pats regardless. Wouldn't be the first time.

If this is true, Mankins is a total doosh.

Here comes the inevitable smear campaign and character assassination of Logan Mankins!!

No matter what spin the Patriots and the media try to put out there, the most detailed reports still suggest that Mankins was offered 1/5 lower what the highest paid guard was offered.

Bill Simmons newest article covers a similar situation where John Hannah held out from the Pats, for similar reasons:
Bill Simmons: NFL training camp means holdouts - ESPN

That article also went into how Brady basically got screwed by the Pats because he took a massive discount with his 2005 deal, and the Pats didn't really use that extra money to help keep the core around (like Branch).

On the radio a few weeks ago, one of the hosts recounted how after that 1st championship, when they renegotiated with Brady the Pats still insisted on not paying a paltry $20,000 bonus. In the 2005 deal, Brady never forgot this and made them re-add that bonus into the contract!!

You should ask Miguel what he thinks of Brady's last contract. He certainly enlightened me.

That article is bs. The Colts spent to build a team around Manning and the Patriots didnt with Brady? Dillon, Moss, Welker. Where are the players the Colts went out and got?

Even if it was 20% lower that the highest paid G ever (which I doubt) so. If the team feels that is what he is worth, that is what they feel.

Many would say that is appropriate. Just being a pro bowler doesn't mean he is THE best in the NFL. A good number of Guards are pro bowlers. That's not the issue. By all accounts the Patriots promised to "take care of him" and making him the 3rd highest paid Guard does exactly that. If he doesn't like the offer he doesn't have to, that's his right. But to call the Krafts liars, which he did in his own way, is the act of a piece of crap. Sorry.
