He said that he "reluctantly" gave permission.

Come on Willie, you either gave permission or you didn't. Did you leave your balls here in NE too?

Count your money and play your last years in Cleve. Then when you retire you can have your 55 back. There won't be any second thoughts on the Patriots part unless you keep shooting off your mouth.

That is totally contradictory to everything that we heard. Whether they made an official offer is unknown but they kept in touch with his agent through the whole thing. McGinest said they "never talked to him" but they did talk to his agent. He wanted the money, plain and simple. Fine. He got it. And Seau took #55.

Much ado about nothing, he goes away from out organization and starts acting like a rich NFL individual player instead of the consumate Pats player. Interesting to see if this comes up in a BB press conference and what his response will be.

Sounds like he'll just have to get over it.
What was he saying the other day about how the system will only get us so far?
I think he needs to worry a little more about Cleveland, and a little less about us.

Didn't Willie jump ship as soon as free agency opened up? Regardless, he gave permission, which should be commended. He did the Pats a favor by helping eliminate any petty nonsense that number loyalty can bring. Besides, Junior will be a one and done, which will free up his number quickly if the Pats do ever decide to retire #55.

BB could care less about what Willie has to say, and I don't care either. He had a choice. He was a free agent. He could have chose to work with the team to figure something out with his contract. He said himself that he knew that final year of his contract was a fake year. Then he started this they never contacted me crap...whatever. We will never know for sure, BB does not throw his players under the bus. And I could have sworn that it was reported in our local papers that the Pats were in contact with his agent. I don't know what the big deal is anyway. He's wearing #55 for Cleveland right? Why should he care who where's it here? He's no longer a Patriot.
In most fans hearts, he will always be a Patriot, mine included. But as of today, it is a fact that he is no longer a Patriot and now plays for the Cleveland Browns. He made that choice. No one forced him into it. Bruschi made the choice to stay here because he didn't want to wear #54 for any other team. Mcginest could have made the same choice if he wanted to.

BB "we will only talk about players who are here, and Willie chose not to be here" haha

shut up willie (although I think everyone is making too much of this, and he never said he was pissed or anything, just that he reluctantly agreed) I was surprised to see that Bill contacted him as well to ask permission, I would have thought it would have just been between willie and Seau.
I am glad Jr. is wearing it, out with the old, in with the new .... errr, well new old guy at least

My thought: If he didn't want anyone wearing #55 on the Patriots, then he should have stayed and worn it himself, otherwise he needs to stop worrying about a team that has nothing to do with him anymore and start worrying about the Browns getting more than 6 wins this season.
