Default Patriots enviable RB situation

It appears that Dillon is back, Maroney is going to be very good, and Faulk is a valuable asset to the team. Mills should make the team as a FB/HB much as Kevin Turner was for us.

So, that leaves Pass, Evans, and Cobbs. Do we keep another RB/FB type? Do wee keep another RB?

Pass hasn't played in the pre-season but we all know that he can come in and do some good things for us ( I know, he dropped the ball with his hammie last year).

Evans has looked good and giving an all out effort.

Cobbs has shown that he has talent as a rook, but it's all come against the other teams scrubs in both of the games. I don't believe that he will clear waivers if released so we can forget about a PS squad position for him.

So who stays and who goes?

I think Pass and Evans will be cut. If Pass clears waivers. Can put him on
IR for 6 weeks and bring him back if need be. I think someone would claim him
though. Evans would be a tough cut. It's basically him or Cobbs. I'll go with
the youngster.

Quite possibly one of the best set of rb's in the league. A little behind SD. But can match up with anyone else. Qb's and te's are top-notch. OL is probably top 10. This is going to be a spectacular offense. I am assuming Deion Branch plays.

We've got to see how LB, DB, and OL shake out, not to mention WR, before we see how many RBs we can keep. Pass is on PUP, I'd keep him there as injury insurance to come back in November. Cobbs may or may not be grabbed off waivers, but I would like to keep him as the next Faulk project. Being greedy, I want to keep Evans too, sigh, poor BB.

If we keep Pass on the PUP, doesn't he still count as a roster spot?

Don't believe so.

If Pass goes on the reserve/PUP, then no, he doesn't count towards the roster limit.

The best choice is to just keep him on PUP through Week 8/9, and then see where Evans and the rest of the RB corps stands.

I think Cobbs might clear waivers if he's cut.

Pass won't, unless he's seriously injured. Since he is still protected under the PUP, there's no point in cutting him and then trying to sneak him back later when the PUP option is still open.

If he isn't activated from the PUP by week 9, then he goes on the I.R.

The same goes with Kaczur.

Yeah, It comes down to Cobbs or Evans. I like them both, a lot. Evans showed a lot last night, loved his hard nosed style, but on the ither hand, Cobbs has looked very good in both games. I'd hate to lose either, and though I always liked Pass, I think he is a goner. On a side note, I don't know if it's just me, but doesn't Faulk look like he's faster this year ? He seems to be flying this year. Faulk will go down as one of my all time favorite Pats. I thought there was an outside chance when we drafted him as him becoming our featured back, and though he has evolved into something else, he has always shown up clutch in the big games. Excellent receiver out of the backfield, and I thought he was amazing as a starter in 2003 when Antowain Smith missed a lot of time. It'll be a sad day when Faulk get's cut.

A) Players don't have to clear waivers to go on I.R.

Also, putting a player on I.R. loses him for the season.

Since Pass is still on the active/PUP, he can still be placed on the reserve/PUP come the start of the season.

B) I don't understand why the Pats would keep Cobbs as a #4 RB. Evans would be a much more valuable option, as he would "start" at FB. Cobbs likely be inactive every week, because there simply wouldn't be enough touches available behind Dillon, Maroney, and Faulk.

Evans isn't a FB. Although he's working on it, blocking isn't his forte. A punisher of DB's, once he can get through the line, he still looks much better against back-ups than he does starters. I know, who doesn't, but IMHO, it's a significant diference. Cobbs showed me more in TC the one opportunity I had to watch both. Considering he's only a rook, I could easily see him filling Faulk's role in future.

Always felt Pass was a less than average player...until last year when he showed flashes of just plain ol' average. Then he dropped the ball. Will not be difficult to replace his productivity. IMO...Mills could do it alone.
