Default SBB's 7/30 PM Practice

Sorry I am late...and I guess by now you probably have gotten it all of the blogs but here goes anyway.

Tate had another nice grab though this was more on the QB who I believe was Hoyer. He threw a perfect strike over Bodden fell right into Tate in stride tough grab because Bodden coverage was tight but again the throw was nice.

Sanders had a INT on a very poorly thrown ball by Robinson. Though it was so bad one has to wonder if a WR did something wrong.

Mayo caused a fumble after Holt made a nice grab in traffic Mayo popped it lose and Merriweather scooped it and ran with it.

Hernandez had a few nice plays but also showed he was a rookie today and dropped an easy one and another one that was a little more difficult but should have been caught.

in 11 on 11 I thought Cunningham showed some decent pass rush and I would give him credit for at least one sack however since there is no contact the play continued and it was a quick dump to a back in the flat who took off for a nice gain that ended in the end zone after several would be tackles. Kind of funny how this play kept going despite possibly being dead 3or 4 times.

At one point for a period or two I was watching the linebackers during individual drills and no one really stood out that much but it was real fun to watch. First they broke down and did some rush drills and then they worked on their drops into coverage.

When they were passing rushing they broke into 2 groups the guys who edge rush and everyone else. The Edge rushers were doing some drills based on getting the outside edge and it was interesting watching Tully and Cunningham working together on one side and Ninkovich and Woods on the other. The other guys were doing interior rush work and were using a dummy and trying to work on their punch to help create a lane.

When they were working on drops. They were in a base 4 linebacker look and each OLB was responsible for the flats and the 2 ILB were responsible for the middle. Than a coach lined up in the pocket and shifted his direction and action in the backfield and the 4 LBs needed to adjust the zone together so that they choked off the area that the coach was threatning. And I found it pretty cool to see how much ground these 4 backers could cover and my thought was if these guys can cover so much area without any DBs how do any QBs complete anything.

again more goal line work and the highlight here came when guyton met a RB at the goal line and stuffed him in his tracks. Problem was he may have stood him up just to late though I never did figure out if it was a TD or not regardless the D liked the contact and it was nice to see Guyton stop the guy in his tracks but gotta do it before the goal line which he may have by an inch. (I have to be honest we were about to leave when this happened so I wasnt paying great attention and I am not sure who the back was and I am pretty sure it was guyton but I could easily be wrong and there was a few guys in on the play to help out too).

Hopefully my detail here makes up for my tardiness.

Awesome work, again. So all in all, the OLB situation didn't look encouraging?

Thats not what I meant. Looking back at what I read I can see how you thought that. When I say no one stood out I didn't mean no one was successful I just meant that it was more a coaching drill and not really something where one could stand out.

Later in the practice as I said in the OP I thought Cunningham showed some nice rush ability and I even think one would have been a sack or at least a QB hit.

Tully had a would be sack in the morning session and I have seen some penetration at other moments too but it can be real hard to guage as they are not allowed to touch or even get close to the QBs.

It's very interesting to read people's blogs and see how everyone sees things differently.

For example - in Reiss' blog, he says that Spikes "fared the best in his blitzing". I didn't see it that way at all. Mayo was by far the best blitzer. Spikes had 2 decent showings, but neither was against a starting quality RB.

Another example - you say that Hernandez "showed he was a rookie". I actually thought he looked tremendous today in the passing game. His route running is real good - he gets open all the time. And his hands are awesome. Yes, he dropped an easy ones today, but he made some very good catches. And other one he didn't catch would have been a SportsCenter highlight.

I agree I think it is un fair for me to say he showed he was a rookie just because of a couple of dropped passes. Everyone drops some. I also fully agree he looks tremendous so far as you say routes are crisp, hands are good, he is getting open, and getting attention from Brady.

Indeed - I meant to say that, but forgot. Brady is making it a point to look for him. It's interesting to see how this develops as the games start.
