Default Will the Boston Media target Gostkowski?

I am very happy to have Gostkowski on our team, and will be rooting for him 100% and give him the benefit of the doubt if he struggles early. I am concerned that some elements in the BM (Boston Media) will have it out for him, hoping that he fails in order to stick it to BB over AV's departure. This is a trend in the press that Pats fans should watch out for next season and resist. This kid needs to be welcomed like any other rookie and given the fan support he will need to combat the vultures in the press.

Not at all. IMO, Felger is drooling already.

After reading about this guy (really knew nothing about him pre-draft), I think he's a solid replacement for AV. Media, schmedia. Once he kicks his first game-winner, they'll STHU.

If only it was just paranoia. Unfortunately, the media has been hammering BB for "allowing AV to leave" andwould be very happy to say "I told you so"

And not just the local media, either.

Best thing would be for him to make a few FGs early on.

And to have AV missed a FG when the COlts come here. That actually would have no bearing of the relative worth ofthe players, being only one kick, but you KNOW the media will make a huge thing out fo it if either of teh kickers miss in the COlts game.

they wont target the new kicker..... he needs to change his last name into something easier. but they WILL target BB again and again with every slip up of the new kicker.
I personally think he looks good, and at first when I saw us taking a kicker in the 4th round I said "WHAT?!?!" but after reading up on him, I am happy with the pick and that we wont have gramatica kicking the first game

Frankly I hope they target him and fire away. He's coming from Memphis to the greatest organization in professional sports. If he is the kicker, he will find himself in a situation where he has to win games for us next season and beyond. You can bank on that. If he cant handle the likes of Ron Borges he can't handle those situations IMO.

I'm rooting for him too. It would be VERY beneficial for the team for him to have a successful camp. It would give us a young kicker with upside versus a hack/stiff like Grammatica.

this is what I was afraid of.

can we at least try to minimize the hometown abuse?

I don't care how tough he is -- when your picture is on the front page of the Globe with the headline "Loser" it can have a lasting impact.

He's a rookie, so let's blast him and see what he's made of?...that's not how Adam grew into the role. Don't turn Foxboro into the Bermuda Triangle of kickers.

Confidence can be a fragile thing with veterans, moreless rookies. The coaching staff can experiment with crushing his psyche in a controlled environment.

we are fans, not player developers.
