Default How certain is it Moss leaves in 2011???

Have read many anti- TO to NE threads on here recently, but if Moss is to head to richer and greener pastures, wouldnt it be worthwhile NE nabbing TO on a 2 yr deal to cover the departure of Moss and safeguard having a no.1 WR in NE for the next 2 seasons?

T.O would be 38/39 years old then. There's questions over if he is an elite wr allready. His production could really fall off a cliff. Is it really worth the headache?

Three threads for a way over the hill diva who hasn't been a legit #1 in some time and likely wouldn't be very happy as a 4th or 5th option... When Jerry Jones lets you go it's time to hang 'em up. TO may have been relatively quiet in Buffalo, but he was also of no consequence. Lots of teams are thin enough at the position that if he were worth the effort they'd have made it by now.

if moss, sees this team can win and he's still the #1 WR not #2 to welker, then i say he's back in 2011.

but if the pats are still just a one and done playoff team or worst and he's not geting the ball no way in hell he will take less money to play for the pats

as far as T.O he is not much better then a good #3 WR now forget about next year.

I'm sure it depends on his production this season and what sort of money he wants next year

I think I read somewhere that Owens was looking for $5 million per year. That seems to be way too much for a guy who had 829 yards and will turn 37 this season. And that's without taking into consideration the other issues with him.

As far as the fact that Moss' contract expires after this season, keep in mind that the Pats will still have the inside track to resign him if they so desire. In addition, every other team is in the same boat as the Pats are in regards to player contracts expiring and the uncertainty of the CBA. That means there are more players set to be free agents next year because teams have been hesitant to offer extensions - and that's before adding in the 200 or so players who had free agency delayed because of the added service time required to become an unrestricted free agent in the uncapped year.

Bottom line is that there will be far more free agents available next year than we have ever seen before, so even if the Pats don't resign Moss there will be plenty of other players available to take his place. In addition there are four very highly rated wide receivers in next year's draft; the Pats could use a first rounder on one of them. And depending on how Tate, Price and Edelman progress, there's the possibility of not needing to add another receiver.

I don't see why the team needs to go into panic mode now because Moss may not be on the team in 2011.

I don't think Moss will be here if he still wants to be paid as a #1 WR, but if he is willing to take a deal for a year or two, and will take a heavy pay drop.

I know Owens said he'd be willing to accept less, but how much less is he really willing to accept? Torry Holt signed for $1.15m, Kevin Faulk and Fred Taylor for $2m each, Alge Crumpler and Derrick Burgess for $1.4m each. Is it realistic to think Owens is actually going to drop his price all the way to those kind of numbers?

Much like Pierce/Allen with the Celtics, I do think Moss would take less money to stay with the Patriots. At this stage of his career, he may be thinking more about his legacy than his wallet to some degree. If we have another season like 2006 or 2007, it would be hard for him to leave and end his career with the Browns.

Moss is getting a bad rap from the mediots, because he still routinely blows them off. So they get back at him by subtly (and some times not so subtly) inferring that he's been either lazy, a bad lockerroom influence, or just a bad person.

The fact is that Randy is one of the more popular Pat amongst his teammates and his production has been worthy of a #1 WR, despite the fact that he was playing through a number of back and shoulder injuries. So THEY leave you with impression that Randy is definitely gone after this season.

While I'd love to have him back, I can understand the reluctance of the Pats to paying him top money at his age. I think Randy understands that too, and he doesn't have a problem with it.

There is a chance, IMHO, that he does come back. Especially if he finds that there isn't any teams willing to pay $10MM+/yr for a 2 or 3 year contract for a guy that old. At $5MM+ he'd be a bargain
