Default *Not* OT: Someone says something nice about Drew Rosenhaus

Who'd've thunk it?

Chris Price sez on WEEI.com:

Quote:
McIntyre also believes that when it comes to getting New England’s second-rounders signed, they will be helped by the fact that Drew Rosenhaus — who McIntyre describes as a “proactive” agent — reps one of their three second-round picks, tight end Rob Gronkowski.

“Philadephia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, a Rosenhaus client, was the first second-rounder to sign in 2009, which was soon followed by Darius Butler’s signing, also a Rosenhaus client,” McIntyre said. “Having a proactive agent like Rosenhaus may prompt the reps for the other two second-rounders to arrive early at the bargaining table to get as much of the approximately $3.263 million that will remain of the Patriots’ rookie pool after the three seventh-rounders sign.”
It Is What It Is Predicting when the rest of the Pats’ rookie class will sign

Is there a correlation between his players being the first to sign a contract, and being the first to want to renegotiate a new contract for his clients before the original contract is finished?

Seriously, Rosenhaus has more notoriety among football fans simply because he is the most well known agent. A lot of fans probably couldn't even name one other agent if asked. There are many other agents that are far more likely to not work out a deal in a timely manner, represent a player that holds out, demands a trade, or sits out while demanding a new contract. Because Rosenhaus is the most well known agent, he is the one fans associate with being difficult to work with, simply because fans want to see players sign, report on time, and not hold out. Agents such as Tom Condon and Eugene Parker seem to be much more difficult for teams to work with than Rosenhaus, in my opinion.

With deep pocketed agents like Rosenhaus, they don't sweat the small change. They don't need to go tooth and nail early on.

Much more important to get his players settled and not worrying about contracts. That way they can focus on football.

What happens when players ignore other distractions and focus on football early?
