If Rex truly believes that and it isn't just offseason coaching fodder where every player is the best player they ever saw or is bound for a breakout year, is that a ringing endorsement of Tomlinson or signs that Ryan is concerned about Greene's ability to carry the rock 25-30 times a game.
It's a glowing endorsement of a run first team when your stable of RB's is Shonn Green, Complainian and Joe McKnight....
It's finally dawned on Rex that Greene is just another average back and he's giving Captain Classy the media spotlight that he so desperately craves. It wont be too long before his turf toe reappears and that running game is left with no Leon Washington, Thomas Jones or Alan Faneca and soils itself like a baby in a diaper.
Watching the Jets should be hilarious when Sanchez is forced to throw it and win games for them.

I still think the Jets are putting a huge gamble on their running game. There is no guarantees that Shonne Greene is durable or consistent enough to replace Thomas Jones especially when the Jets replaced a strong run blocking guard in Alan Faneca with a rookie guard that is universally considered to be raw and a project (although with a lot of upside).
Totally agree. It is being assumed that because they ran well last year, they will run well this year. Historically, nothing is further from the truth. But for some ultra-elite runners, and a a handful of teams that run well because they built a team around it for many years, running games are inconsistent from year to year.
The Jets are banking on a guy who had 100 carries then broke off a couple long runs in the playoffs to be the 16 game stud, expected basically to lead the league in rushing. They are doing that with their best run blocker cut, a LT whp has never been much of a run blocker and a RT who has a history of very inconsistent play, weight problems and a career of being an interior player.
The Jets running game of 2009 doesn't resemble the running game of 2010 very much. And they needed to be #1 rushing the ball just to have an offense that had a shot. If they slide in the running game we could be looking at one of the very worst offenses in the entire NFL.
As for the "GM with multiple SB Rings", I think there are a few of those in the league right now.
1) Scott Pioli
2) Ozzie Newsome
3) Bill Parcells
4) Mike Holmgren
5) Chuck Noll (?)
Of them, I think that Parcells is crass enough to throw LdT under the bus..
How does Ozzie Newsome have multiple rings? Parcells is not a GM. Holmgren has 1 ring and is not a GM either. Chuck Noll? My god he's been gone 25 years.

So does that basically leave Scott Pioli?

Talking football is talking football, regardless of the "team" of the message board. Do you refuse to talk football with fans of other teams when you're in person?
Of course not. It's about the effort and time required to actually go to another team's message board. This is the equivalent of walking up to a table of strangers in a restaurant, who are clearly friends and heavily involved in a conversation among themselves, and suddenly and loudly inserting yourself into their conversation with a rebuttal of something one of them said. It is not only rude, it is also bizarre and needy.

Neither is Holmgren, he's a president, and he won his 1 ring as a HC in GB. He was defacto GM in Seattle but didn't win anything before losing that title. And Ozzie only has 1 ring and he won it as a VP of Player personnel on another GM's watch. He wasn't named GM in Baltimore until 2002. And he never won one earlier since he was a player and then joined BB in the front office in Cleveland. I doubt Chuck Noll still gets access to film...
That leaves Pioli...who remains popular with the NY media since his Giants days (which is why they were positive he would take the Giants as his dream job had Coughlin gotten canned as often as predicted...).
First of all, it did not say that the guy won his rings AS A GM.. A GM with multiple rings could mean he got them as a player as well..
As for Chuck Noll getting access, he's still a major player in the Steelers Organization. I guarantee he still has access to film.
I got my Newsome's mixed up. Ozzy does only have one.
And Holmgren has several rings from his days with the 49ers.. Not to mention his one with Green Bay.
As for Parcells, you all are correct. He does have a GM that works under him.. So it was probably not him.. Though a reporter could have screwed it up like I did.

It's all done on a computer. How much time and effort does it take to go to any message board, especially after you've bookmarked the site?

As someone has pointed out, Newsome is ringless, Holmgren has one and Noll is no longer on the scene.
But, I'd leave Parcells in the mix, even if he isn't a "GM." I re-read the article and it says "a general manager with multiple Super Bowl rings..." He doesn't use "GM" (which he uses immediately above) and he doesn't capitalize the title. So, Parcells, who runs the Dolphins football operations, definitely qualifies as a "general manager" even if he isn't a "GM." The author couldn't very well protect his source and say "a current NFL Team EVP with multiple SB rings," as that would pretty well narrow it down to one guy. It's also in Bill's interest to sow a little discord among the Jets.
That said, Pioli has had the best chance to observe LdT over the last year, but he really doesn't have a stake in roiling the Jets, other than to give them a poke for old times' sake.

1) the article did not say that the GM won his rings as a GM. It just said the GM has multiple SB rings. There is a difference
2) As was pointed out after my initial post, Newsome has 1 Ring.
3) Holmgren has several rings from his time with the 49ers and 1 ring with Green Bay
4) Chuck Noll is with the Steelers organization and very active with them.

Its bizarre and nerdy that you equate an internet message board to private restaurant table.
