Not sure I like this. It would probably result in removing the first round bye, which, IMO, is the most effective reward of regular season success in sports. I think it needs to stay.

I'd guess that the injuries would be worse than following a linear rate of injuries per game. The increased number of games could turn wear and tear injuries like sprains / strains into more serious injuries when the player plays through them and winds up really screwing himself up.

In terms of a league that's battling against the concussion prone nature of it's game, an 18 game regular season is a step backwards. More games = more opportunites for concussed players to get back out on the field and smack skulls, nevermind that it's another 2 games worth of concussions.

I think the owners are so driven by money that they will push the players hard for things like an 18 game season, to which the players will respond by striking. In the end, the owner's quest for money will turn into the 1 thing that all fans can agree they do not want - a lost season of NFL games.

That's actually a very good idea. I wonder why I hadn't thought of it?

NFL games outside of US (Dear god no, I will agree this is HORRIBLE)
Handling of SpyGate (Fine/draft pick were OUTRAGEOUS but I am glad he destroyed tapes)

So yeah Goodell has done A LOT more good than bad.
The 3 day draft was done once... is that enough to prove it a success? The Pro Bowl before the Super Bowl was a success?
Overtime rules that are different in post season and regular season makes sense how?
A Super Bowl that is 4 years away from taking place is a success?
The third game on Thanksgiving... yay, taking away tradition to give two more teams a short practice week during the season. Awesome!

I'm sorry man, but I have to disagree with your assessment.

The question is simple: do you like to watch football or not?

Some people can take it or leave it. i am disappointed when the regular season ends, and would be happy to see more.

The 'more injuries' in an 18-game season is the dumbest argument in the world. A longer season does not have to mean more games per player. There is no reason why an 18 game season has to mean players play more games.

There are ways to work around this, including a requirement that a player can play in only 16 regular season games. This will require the team to sit him 2 games a year.

All the records tied to a 16-game season remain intact. Players get three weeks off during the year which should actually benefit them more than the one week off they get now with the bye.

It just takes a little thought, that's all.
So basically you're saying that 2 of the pre-season games should count towards the team's record only instead of voluntarily sitting starters to rest them up before the season, they would be required to sit their starters and watch the water boys battle it out in games that would count against the regular season record. Simply awesome. Maybe instead of the Super Bowl we can have a mascot vs mascot wrestling match to determine who wins?

Not only that its just Greediness. ALso, if this goes thru, and if the new CBA grants more money towards the Players way, 18 games would level that off, meaning the league still gets its big cut that its getting now.

I enjoy watching football games. I find the preseason games meaningless but I still watch them. I would be happy to see the league go to 18 regular season games and have only two preseason games. I have, as of right now, talked with dozens of people and it is almost 100% in agreement with my way of thinking. I do agree that the players should be compensated for the extra games, and I certainly think that making players sit out mandatory games is the stupidest idea I have ever heard.

As for Brady's comments, hasn't he just recently become the player rep? That would probably be why he hasn't commented on things like this before.

Dood, polling your sister's kindergarten class about the topic is a lot different than asking football fans. Put up another poll on this forum and you will see first hand. I have talked to several football fans about the issue. Although it's not 100% against an 18 game season, it is a huge majority.

You must not know a single seaon ticket holders because I don't know any STHers who don't want to switch from 4/16 to 2/18.
